Onion
The species diversity of onions is quite large. Onions and spring onions are most often grown in the garden, although leeks and shallots deserve no less attention. The love for onions is based not only on their taste, but also on their ability to be stored for a long time throughout the cold season. However, leeks, which have a more subtle and delicate taste, are often used in restaurant cuisine.
A description of all types of onions, varietal characteristics and rules for growing in the garden can be found in this section. Do not forget that the time of planting it in open ground depends on the type of onion. For example, leeks are planted after the end of frost on well-warmed soil (usually in mid-May) in the form of seeds or seedlings. But to obtain fresh greens, the trumpets are planted in greenhouses.
You should be careful that it is not recommended to grow onions in the same place every year. Returning to the previous site is possible after 4 years, if garlic and some other root crops did not grow on it. The soil should be loose and fertile, so it is fertilized in the fall, and several fertilizing is done during the period of onion growth.
