Proper planting of onions will be the key to a good, abundant harvest of tasty onions.

Onion - the plant that we need for a healthy body, which gives us many vitamins, nutrients, and gives dishes a unique taste and zest. In principle, onions are an unpretentious plant; the main actions are the correct planting of the onion and then its correct storage, if it is an onion. From such onions in early spring you can get early tasty natural greens at home.

Onions are grown in open ground, they are planted either in spring or autumn, and to get green onions they are planted in summer. Onion - A biennial plant, it can be propagated by seeds. You can get the seeds yourself if you collect the seeds of the variety you like, but in the first year of planting, onion sets grow from onion seeds, which do not tolerate home conditions in winter, so to get an onion harvest, it is better to buy onion sets in the spring and plant them on your plot.

Rules for proper planting of onions:

  • Planting material must be of high quality, without spoilage or rot, so that the tubers are hard and well-dried.
  • The seedlings must be the same size, this guarantees simultaneous friendly shoots. If suddenly you have bulbs of different sizes, then first you should plant the larger ones, then the medium-sized ones and the last small bulbs.
  • Before planting, onion sets should be warmed up either on a radiator or in the sun (temperature no higher than forty degrees).
  • The night before planting day, the bulbs are soaked in complex fertilizer.
  • Immediately before planting, the onion should be soaked in copper sulfate for ten minutes, this will help save the onion from fungal diseases.
  • If you want to get greens, then you need to cut off the tops of the onions; if you want to get onions, then you don’t cut anything.
  • The bulbs are planted in pre-prepared beds in a dry and sunny place.
  • For a good summer harvest, the beds must be prepared in the fall so that onion sets can be planted in the spring.
  • A few days before planting onions, the beds should be watered with a solution of copper sulfate (two liters per square meter).
  • Onions can only be planted in warm soil; if the soil temperature is below 12 degrees, problems will arise.
  • The planting depth is no more than four centimeters; after planting, water everything well.

And at what depth should the temperature not be below twelve degrees? I didn’t pay attention to this point before, maybe that’s why there were sometimes unstable seedlings?

I planted the onions in very soft soil in the greenhouse, but after repeated watering, some of the bulbs simply ended up on top of the soil. It turns out 3 cm deep - this is not enough for a bow.
