Rules for planting onions

Onions are one of the most unpretentious plants. Its harvest can be obtained without putting in a lot of effort, just follow a few simple rules for planting onions.
- Small bulbs with a diameter of 1.5-2 cm.
- You should not plant onions in the same place every year because the soil becomes depleted, pests infest it and diseases spread. It is best to use a plot of potatoes, cabbage, carrots and beets.
- Before planting onions, the soil is usually fertilized. It is better to do this in the fall, allowing the organic matter to rot and create favorable conditions for the future harvest.
- Planting time is determined individually in each region. As a rule, this is the first ten days of May - a time when the soil has warmed up a little, but still remains moist.
- It is most convenient to plant onions in three rows. The width of the bed should be approx. 80 cm, the distance between the bulbs is 20 cm.
- Use ammonium nitrate for the first feeding of onions (when the first green feathers appear). Then feeding should be repeated once every few days. Feeding proportion : 1 tbsp. for 10 liters of water.
- Don't forget that onions like loose soil, so avoid clay soil. It is recommended to loosen it a little before each watering. So, the onion will be juicy and not bitter.
- Onions are usually harvested at the end of August in dry weather. If the onion feathers begin to droop and dry out, this is a sign that the harvest needs to be harvested. After harvesting, the onions should be dried.If you did everything correctly, your onion will have auburn skin.
