Selected bulbs peel off several layers of dry covering scales (husks) and soak for several hours in warm water.
Green onions can be grown either in soil or hydroponically. Any soil for onions is suitable, the height of the pot is approximately 15 cm.
The soil layer should be at least 7-8 cm. Bury the bulb 2/3 into the soil. Plant the bulbs very tightly, since as the green feather grows, the mother bulb will decrease in volume.
If there is not enough space, you can place a “vertical” bed, arranged in a five-liter water bottle. Having poured a layer of earth on the bottom, cut a row of holes around the circumference into which to place the bulbs, then add another layer of earth and a new row of holes, and so on until the very top.
Onions grow well at a temperature of +18 and in good sunlight. But for the first 5-7 days, plantings can be kept in a semi-dark room.
After about 15-20 days, the green onions are ready for cutting. There are two ways to go about this. Cut off the feather and wait for secondary regrowth if strong onion bulbs were used.
If planting was carried out with onions - shallot, then remove them together with the onions, do the same if the greens are obtained from onion sets.
Growing green onions in water is the hydroponics method. It is important here to place the bulbs so that only the roots touch the water, otherwise the bulb itself will begin to rot.
You can use a suitable pot, pour water into the bottom and place cups with holes in the bottom in it and place the bulbs in them.
To ensure that green onions are always on the table, it is worth having several plantings a week apart.
If onions planted on the windowsill are only enough for the needs of the family, then having a small greenhouse, you can organize the cultivation of vitamin products for sale.

I really love fresh onions, especially good in winter with sauerkraut. But of course I don’t grow it in such volumes, I just put it on the windowsill in a plastic egg tray. I pour a little water and that’s it.
