How to plant roses from cuttings

One of the best known and most reliable methods grow roses in your garden - this is to use cuttings. Most gardeners use this method, since the most is known about it, and it is not particularly difficult to do, although there are some nuances.
It is worth noting that two types of cuttings can be used for planting: last year’s cuttings (they are also called lignified) and current year’s cuttings (semi-lignified). Depending on what type of rose a person wants to plant, he needs to choose one or another type.
For that to take a cutting, you need to do several steps:
  1. First action. Wait for the best moment to make cuttings. Usually, for this they take the period from the moment when the buds are formed until the very end of their flowering.
  2. Second action. No matter how trivial it may sound, you need to take a pruner and head to the rose bush that you like most. In this case, it must be carefully examined and any diseases or defects excluded.
  3. Third action. You need to choose the best shoot on the bush. As a rule, for this purpose, choose the middle part of the branch, on which at least five leaves grow.
  4. Fourth act. After this, cut off the lower part of the flower and its crown.
  5. Fifth act. It is necessary to cut off the two lower leaves, since this part of the cutting will be planted in the ground.
  6. Sixth act. All other leaves must be cut. This must be done in order to retain as much moisture as possible in the plant.
  7. Seventh act. After all the previous steps have been completed, it is necessary to plant the cuttings in a pot with previously specially prepared material for planting roses (well-moistened garden soil).
  8. Eighth act. After the cutting is planted, you need to cover it with a cut plastic bottle or any glass container. This is done to ensure better germination and less moisture evaporation.
  9. Act nine. It is necessary to ensure that the soil does not dry out and constantly (every day) spray the shoot.

After two weeks (this usually happens like this), the first roots begin to appear, which after another two weeks will become very well established in the ground. After a month has passed, the shoot must be placed in a dark place, where it will remain until spring. Of course, it is necessary to ensure that the soil does not dry out. But it is not necessary to water every day.
By following the order of these steps, you can grow beautiful roses on your site. The main thing is not to forget to water, and you need to choose a good shoot so that time is not wasted.

Semi-lignified or green cuttings?

If you decide to plant roses by cuttings and take green cuttings for this, then you need to remember that they are taken from shoots that formed this year. Usually, this is done (cuttings are carried out) during the period from the moment the buds form on the flower, or before the start of flowering.
Worth taking middle part of the shoot. The stalk should not be longer than eight centimeters. Of course, more experienced gardeners take the entire shoot and divide it into two or three parts, each of which will have a bud.
It is imperative to remember that the lower part should be cut obliquely, and the upper part straight. All other actions will be the same as described above, that is, placed in the ground for two weeks, constantly moistened, and after two weeks placed in a dark place. Sometimes, some people put the cutting in water. The effect is basically the same. You just need to constantly ensure that the water in the container is clean.

I tried many times to grow roses this way, but they did not survive the winter. Maybe they didn’t have time to take root properly over the summer. I don't understand what's wrong.

I decided to experiment. In the fall, I cut cuttings of all the roses I liked. I planted the main part just at home in a pot (without a jar), and part in the garden under a jar. At home - by now, 30% of the jars are alive; outside, everyone overwintered and began to grow (one problem is that some of the jars were blown away by the wind and the cuttings simply dried out). So far I'm very happy with the result. Look what happens by summer
