Garter of cucumbers in an open area

Garter of cucumbers carried out in order to save space on the site, prevent certain diseases that arise from contact of fruits with soil, and to facilitate harvesting.

You need to tie cucumbers when the plant already has three to four leaves and has reached a height of 10 cm. This is done in two ways: horizontally and vertically. In this case, special care must be taken when gartering, since the stems of cucumbers are very fragile and easily break.

Horizontal garter It is carried out as follows: one strong stake is driven into both sides of the plot with cucumbers. about two meters high (it is better to use metal ones). Between them you need to stretch moderately thick ropes horizontally.

The main disadvantage of using a horizontal dressing is that cucumbers may not grow upward, but on the sides.

For equipment vertical garter They also use two pillars up to two meters high. A vertical support is attached to them on top. It is to this that each plant is tied. Rag ropes are tied around the plant between the first and second, or second and third leaves and tied to a horizontal support. There is no need to pull the cord too much so as not to harm the plant; it is better to tie it in such a way that later it can be done without problems to pull tighter. Before that, carefully wrap the rope around the cucumber several times along its entire length.

  • In greenhouses, cucumbers are usually grown up a vertical trellis.

Gartering cucumbers is not necessary when growing this crop. The plant can simply be left on the ground.
