Planting and caring for delphinium
Annual species of delphiniums are propagated by seeds; they are sown in open ground in autumn or early spring. You can grow seedlings first. The easiest way to plant perennial delphiniums is by dividing the bush. To do this, you need to prepare a hole 40x40x40 cm. Compost, ash, humus, and mineral fertilizers (preferably granulated) are added there. The soil is thoroughly moistened and only then is the bush planted. In one place, delphinium grows for up to 10 years.
Delphinium prefers diffused lighting; it is better to avoid southern areas. If there is no rainfall for a long time, the bush needs additional watering. For more luxuriant flowering, delphinium needs additional fertilizing; organic and mineral fertilizers should be applied no more than three times per season: in spring, during budding and after flowering.
Planting and caring for delphinium is, in principle, not a difficult task. The main thing for a gardener is remember the mandatory annual pruning of stems after flowering. They cut it short, and the cut area is treated with clay. Such manipulations stimulate the appearance and growth of new shoots, which often also manage to bloom again.
In order to protect delphiniums from strong winds, the stem is additionally strengthened with special holders.
