Growing lobelia from seeds on your own plot

Growing from lobelia seeds

Many gardeners who like lobelia find that growing it is too troublesome due to the very small seeds. But, according to knowledgeable flower growers growing from lobelia seeds not as difficult as it seems.

First you need to prepare a light substrate, which consists of a mixture of fertile garden soil, sand and vermiculite. Lobelia seeds, like many small seeds, are sown by amateur gardeners on a thin layer of snow, previously placed in a container with soil. On such a snow-white surface, dark small seeds are much easier to distribute than on dark soil. After the seeds are evenly distributed, it is advisable to cover the container with a transparent film and place it in a warm, lit place for their germination.

Growing lobelia from seeds in this way makes it possible, without much hassle, to eventually obtain a lush cap strewn with small flowers.

Shoots appear
in 10-15 days. Water them moderately, ensuring the constant moisture of the substrate. It is advisable to add a weak solution of potassium permanganate to the water, since seedlings are often affected by the “black leg”.

After the emergence of seedlings, 10-15 days later they can be fed with complex fertilizer.

Since the seedlings are very small, several of them are planted in one container. This way they look much more impressive and grow much faster. To make the lobelia branch better, after planting it in a permanent place, pinch it several times.

Lobelia blooms almost all summer, when pruning faded inflorescences - until early November. In sunny places its flowering is more abundant.
