Sowing lettuce

Lettuce is a healthy and tasty vegetable, which is especially valued for its folic acid content. By growing lettuce in your summer cottage, you can get not only a good harvest of fresh herbs, but also garden beds that will amaze you with their beauty.
Today, foreign and domestic breeders have taken care of this. You can buy different varieties of lettuce, which differ in appearance, color and taste.
Typically, lettuce is grown in two ways: seedlings or through seeds.
The seedling method is suitable for obtaining an early harvest of head lettuce varieties. Sowing of lettuce is carried out 30-35 days before planting the seedlings in a permanent place. For seedlings, you should choose high-quality seeds that are placed in individual pots. Shoots appear on the 4th day after sowing the seeds. During this period, it is important to provide young shoots with a lower temperature, otherwise they will stretch.
Sowing lettuce through seeds is the most common method in our area. Seeds can be planted from the beginning of April and repeated several times until mid-June, thereby providing yourself with this vegetable for the entire spring-summer period. It is important to prevent the formation of a soil crust, which will prevent the germination of seedlings. It is also necessary to thin out strong sprouts in a timely manner to obtain a good salad rosette.
Lettuce is a moisture-loving plant. With a lack of watering, lettuce leaves become smaller and acquire an unpleasant bitterness.
Lettuce is characterized by resistance to low temperatures and early ripening; the plant requires mineral fertilizers.
