Description of the variety

Apples White filling varieties appeared thanks to folk selection. There is an assumption that it was bred somewhere in the Baltics. From there it was spread across the European continent. But some believe that this is an old Russian variety.

Trees of this variety are of medium size, sometimes growing up to 4-5 meters in height. The crown of young trees looks like a pyramid. With age, it takes on a rounded shape. The bark on the trunk has its own characteristics. Thanks to this, the variety can be distinguished when the plant lacks leaves and apples. The bark is usually colored light gray, it has roughness, but in seedlings it is smooth.

Trees covered with gray-green foliage. The leaf is medium in size and elliptical in shape. The leaf is covered with fluff on the underside, and its upper part is smoother.Flowers are collected in bouquets. White petals have pink splashes. The large size of the flowers allows the plant to be pollinated by the wind. In this case, insects are not needed for pollination.

The age of the apple tree affects the size of the fruit.

They are large on young trees. The weight of one apple can reach 150 grams. The fruits become smaller when the tree begins to age, with the weight of one apple being up to 60 grams. The fruits have a rounded shape near the tail, and taper toward the calyx.

From ovary to ripening, the fruits are green in color; as they ripen, they become white. Fruits located on the south side of the tree become slightly pink. The apple has a characteristic stripe that runs from top to bottom. From the moment of ovary apples covered with a whitish coating. It is stored until fully ripe and is easily washed off or washed.

The fruits have a thin and slightly sour skin compared to the delicate pulp. White filling apples are widely used by amateur gardeners to make jam, marmalade, wine, marmalade, juice, and cider according to their own unique recipes. The fruits contain up to 10% pectin and up to 9% sugar.

Trees of this variety survive winter cold well and are able to preserve the ovary during spring frosts. The variety has limited frost resistance. There is no point in growing it in the northern regions.

Landing rules

The key to successful cultivation of the White filling apple tree is planting material. In the first 10 years, the development of the tree is directly dependent on the quality of the acquired seedling. And if you supplement it with useful tips on planting and care, a bountiful harvest is guaranteed.

Choosing the right seedling

It is best to choose trees from garden centers or nurseries.This will allow you to visually assess the quality of the seedling and get expert advice.

The specified specimen will be dug up in your presence, its roots will be treated with a special mash so that the plant can easily endure all the inconveniences of transportation.

Inspect carefully root system. It should have a healthy appearance, good development, and there should be no mechanical damage, thickening or swelling.

Carefully inspect the roots for rot and mold. Make a small scratch on the root - white wood, which will become visible as an indicator of the viability of the plant.

The presence of brown spots indicates poor development of the root system. There is no need to purchase a plant with such roots. The height of the seedling should be 1.2-1.5 meters, a healthy root collar, a straight trunk, at least five skeletal branches. High-quality seedlings should have no damaged bark or broken branches.

To prepare seedlings for transportation, you need to wrap the roots with a wet cloth and place them in a plastic bag. For this purpose, you can use highly moistened soil. Tie the branches carefully. If planting is planned after some time, measured in days or weeks, to preserve the root system, it is necessary to dig in the seedlings or leave them in a bag with a moistened substrate.

Optimal planting times and site selection

In the spring, rooting seedlings contributes to the formation of a mossy root system and the development of a healthy, high-quality crown. By winter, such plants will have time to go through a period of adaptation and will survive it well.

Landing apple trees White filling should be done from the second half of April to the first half of May. The main criterion is sufficiently warm and dry soil after winter.Before planting, the roots of the seedlings must be left in water for a day. And after planting a seedling, you need to water it with as much water as the soil can absorb.

Planting in spring is recommended for seedlings that are not yet two years old. It is better to root all the rest in the first half of October.

Apple trees do not take root everywhere. For this reason, the correct choice of planting site plays an important role. It is necessary to take into account that White filling does not like drafts, strong winds, sunshine and shade.

Crowding has a bad effect on the development of trees; the distance should be 1.5-2 meters. The occurrence of groundwater is at a depth of about two meters.

This fruit crop loves non-acidified soil rich in beneficial microelements. You cannot plant seedlings in rocky or flooded areas, as the tree will die there. The apple tree needs moderate moisture, so plant the plants on a hill.

Planting stages

Preparation work begins a month before tree planting. This is done to facilitate the rooting process by creating the desired microclimate in the soil.

To do this, you need to dig a hole with a diameter of 100 centimeters. Its depth should be 70 centimeters. During preparation, place the fertile top layer of soil on one side of the hole, and the bottom layer on the other.

Keep this advice in mind because planting is done using fertile soil. You need to drive a small peg into the center of the recess. The bottom edge needs to be burned. This manipulation is necessary to prevent the development of bacteria that cause rotting. The bottom must be covered with expanded clay or broken bricks.

After this, mix fertile soil, compost, humus and peat. Pour the mixture into the hole. Sometimes gardeners advise filling the hole to the top.This is explained by the fact that when the soil settles, the tree will not sink with it. Then the pit is covered with cellophane. In this form it lasts 4-5 weeks.

When the specified time has passed, you can begin planting trees.

This process can be roughly divided into stages:

  • Inspect the root system of the tree. If the root sections are covered with brown spots, they need to be cut back to white wood. Be sure to check for rotting processes. If the roots have not been treated with a clay mash, treat them now, this will prevent the roots from drying out.
  • Place the plant in the prepared hole. The seedling must be positioned so that the peg is located south of the trunk. This will save the plant from sunburn.
  • The roots need to be carefully straightened, and then the seedling should be watered. You need to pour as much water as the soil can absorb.
  • After this, fill the hole with fertile soil and compact it thoroughly. The root collar should be located five centimeters above ground level. If you bury it, the apple tree will always have a low yield, and if you leave it too high, it will die.
  • Tie the tree trunk to a peg. This will prevent it from loosening in windy weather.
  • Tree trunk circle, mulch, retreating 15 centimeters from the trunk. This will protect the roots from rotting and will not allow moisture to quickly evaporate.

Important!!! Mulching apple trees with sawdust from coniferous trees is strictly prohibited! They increase the acidity of the soil.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

This variety has a number of positive qualities. Thanks to them, White Filling has not lost its relevance for several decades:

  • high productivity;
  • frost resistance;
  • apples ripen early;
  • The fruiting period begins early.

The popularity of the variety does not decrease, even if there are disadvantages:

  • fruiting is not regular;
  • fruits cannot be stored for a long time;
  • susceptible to scab;
  • the presentation of apples is lost during transportation;
  • the harvest ripens quickly, and due to the short shelf life, there is a problem with processing.

Be that as it may, but apples White filling varieties ripen first! And just for this reason, it is necessary that there is at least one tree on the site. After all, apples are so wonderful! Both adults and children love them.

What beautiful apples, you look at them and immediately feel the approach of spring and warmth. My parents have a white tree growing. Indeed, the tender fruits are excellent both for fresh consumption and for jam, marmalade, and compote.

The white filling variety of apples grows in our garden and I want to tell you, it’s a very early apple that practically never lasts. You have to eat right away, from the tree. Quite tasty. But basically we bury the entire harvest because we don’t eat it, and this apple is not suitable for processing at all.

I would like to object to the processing :) I constantly prepare a very tasty compote from halves of white apples. I’ll be happy to share, the recipe is very simple.

We wash and sterilize the jars. We sort the apples, cut them into halves, and remove the seeds. Can be cut into 4 parts. Dip a colander with apple pieces into boiling water for 2-3 seconds, no more. Spoon as many apples as you can into the hot jar. Immediately pour boiling syrup over it. About a glass of sugar per liter of water.Roll it up, turn it over and cover it with a blanket for 20 hours.

The apples turn out very tasty; if the syrup seems very sweet, you can dilute it with boiled water. Bon appetit:)

This variety is one of my favorites. And until recently there was no alternative for me, but the children bought a building plot, a former garden, and several old trees remained there. One of them produces fruits that are very similar in appearance (at first I was sure that this was my favorite variety) to the white filling. They taste the same, but - and this is great - they don’t become like potatoes over time and don’t lose their juiciness. Maybe someone knows what kind of apples these are?

I love White filling, this is, one might say, my favorite variety of apples) Their pulp is soft, tender, and refreshing. I agree that it is better to eat fresh (as, indeed, any other fruit). They are completely unpretentious in care, that’s a fact.
