Like many plants, marigolds, whose Latin name is Tagetes, came to the Eurasian continents during the years of European exploration of America. Chernobrivtsy or marigolds are annual or perennial herbaceous plants from the Asteraceae family.
Straight stems form a fairly compact bush. There are miniature species, up to 20 cm in height, and tall ones - up to one meter. The roots are well developed and fibrous. The leaves of marigolds are heavily cut, their color ranges from light green to dark green. The inflorescences themselves - the baskets - deserve special attention. The flowers have a peculiar green cover in the form of a cylinder of fused leaves. The marginal female flowers are ligulate. Their color can be:

How to plant and grow marigolds

To determine the sowing date of Chernobrivtsev seedlings, it is important to take into account that they are planted in the ground in late May - early June, and they need 8 - 10 weeks to grow, so it is optimal to sow the seeds in the last ten days of March - the first ten days of April. When sowing at this time, seedlings do not need additional lighting. When seedlings are produced for sale, they are sowed already in February when additional lighting is organized. Soil for seedlings is made up of equal parts:

You can choose a different composition, but priming should be light, permeable to air and moisture. The planting container is filled first with drainage mixture and then with soil. When planting with further picking, the seeds are sown in an almost continuous row. If space allows, you can grow Chernobrivtsi without picking, placing the seeds at a distance of five cm from each other.

As soon as the threat of late frosts passes, the seedlings are planted in open ground.

During the period of bud formation, you can add a phosphorus-potassium mixture. An excess of nitrogen can lead to an increase in green mass and a decrease in the number of flowers.
