How to plant and care for gladiolus

Gladioli can become a real decoration for your garden or plot if you know how to make them correctly planting and caring for gladiolus. First comes prepare corms for planting, by clearing them of the covering scales and cutting out the damaged areas. Then the selected bulbs need to be kept for about an hour in a granosan solution (20 grams of the drug should be dissolved in 10 liters of water) and then placed under a damp burlap for 2 hours. Immediately before planting, the bulbs need to be thoroughly dried after such wet treatment.
The best time for planting is early spring, when the soil at a depth of 10 cm warms up to 10°C. However, planting too early can cause growth retardation and disease damage to the corms. To prolong flowering, corms can be planted at several times at intervals of 10 days, until mid-May. Corms are planted according to a 20x15 cm pattern at a depth of 8 to 10 cm. If the planting depth is less, then in strong winds the plants may lie down.
Gladioli are very sensitive to care. To preserve moisture, maintain uniform soil temperature, good flowering and the formation of corms, mulching of plantings after preliminary moistening of the soil is mandatory.
In summer, especially before budding and during flowering, gladioli it is necessary to water abundantly, soaking the soil to the depth of the roots.At the same time, frequent superficial watering does harm instead of benefit, promoting the formation of an airtight crust that prevents moisture and air from reaching the roots.
During the growing season it is necessary to carry out feeding gladioli. The first - in the phase of formation of the 3-4th leaf; the second - during the budding period.
