Growing cucumbers on the window is interesting and easy

Growing cucumbers indoors is a quite exciting and not very difficult process. Being shade-tolerant plants, cucumbers on the window feel quite good, actively bloom and bear fruit to the delight of their owners.

In order to grow a good harvest of cucumbers you need to know some secrets of their cultivation.

  • Firstly, maximum lighting: containers with plants should not be placed on the north side - the plants will be weak and stretch upward.
  • When buying seeds, it is best to buy shade-tolerant, self-pollinating hybrids. They calmly tolerate a lack of sunlight, sudden temperature fluctuations, and low air humidity in the apartment. Hybrid plants have a larger number of female flowers and are characterized by increased productivity.
  • F1 hybrids are quite suitable for planting on a windowsill: Legend, Claudia, Tatyana, Seryozha. I grew the Marinda variety for a couple of years - an excellent result, from two bushes every morning I picked 2-3 crispy cucumbers for breakfast, the average size of the fruit was up to 15 cm.
  • Of the larger varieties, you can grow Zozulya, Ragtime, Babylon; the fruits of these varieties grow much faster, their size reaches 25 cm.
  • When growing cucumbers on a window or on a balcony in the summer, you can use light-loving varieties: Mazai, Amur 1801, Stella, Boy with Thumb. For growing in the summer, I took the varieties Pasadena F1, Pasamonte F1, the fruits are small, gherkins, very dense and tasty both in salad and lightly salted.

When should you sow cucumbers? If you do not plan to illuminate with helium or fluorescent lamps, then in the last days of February. For the normal development of the plant, it is enough to plant it in pots (pans or buckets can be used) with a volume of 5 liters.

It is better to buy ready-made soil, or mix garden soil with peat and sawdust. You definitely need to add mineral fertilizers: potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen, a little wood ash - it will reduce the acidity of the soil.

The temperature in the room should be quite high - 20-22 degrees is best.
