Like each of the plants in our garden, raspberries may be attacked by garden pests.
- The most formidable of them is strawberry-raspberry weevil. It has amazing gluttony and damages the leaves and flowers of the plant. The beetle larvae, which hatch directly in the buds and flowers of the plant, eat away parts of the flower and cause it to dry out. Pests overwinter under fallen leaves. It is best to begin the fight against weevils even before flowering begins, by spraying the plants with preparations "Confidor", "Iskra" or their analogues. After fruiting, raspberry bushes need to be sprayed with karbofos.
- No less harm can be caused to fruit-bearing raspberry bushes by such raspberry pests How raspberry beetles, which can destroy up to 100% of the crop or make it unsuitable for sale and processing. They damage fruits and eat young leaves on raspberry bushes. The fight against the raspberry beetle consists of spraying the plant during budding with a solution of karbofos, preparations "Decis", "Iskra", "Konfidor". It is advisable to dig up the soil near bushes and between rows during the period of pupation of beetle larvae deeply.
- Raspberry mosquitoes, or shoot galitsa - quite common pests of raspberries. By laying larvae in cracks in the bark of young shoots, the larvae damage the cambial layer, which leads to drying out of young shoots.You need to fight the shoot galitz by spraying the plants twice with a solution of karbofos and digging up the soil near the bushes in spring or autumn. Spoiled shoots must be cut out and burned.
- Raspberry bud moth - This is a small butterfly, the larvae of which are able to completely gnaw out the buds of a plant and then penetrate into the shoots. Old plantings have a high probability of being affected by raspberry moths. In order to prevent pest damage to plantings, it is necessary to cut out and burn fruit-bearing shoots and burn them. It is also advisable, during the swelling of the buds, to spray the plants with the same preparations as when fighting the raspberry beetle.
- The same control methods can be applied to raspberry stem fly, the larvae of which severely damage the stems of the plant, which can lead to its death.
