Caring for strawberries in spring

strawberries

Strawberries or garden strawberries are one of the favorite berries of both children and adults. Appetizing berries with sour cream, strawberry jam, compotes and strawberry pies will not only become a favorite treat on the family and holiday table, but will also decorate it. In addition, strawberries contain a number of vitamins and nutrients - sugar, malic and citric acids, carotene, phosphorus, potassium, manganese, iron salts and others. And in order for the berries to bear fruit generously, they must be properly cared for.

Caring for strawberries in the spring is mandatory. Don’t think that after winter the plant grows completely independently, waking up from hibernation. In the spring, you should definitely remove the dry leaves of the bush, remove the mulch powder in which many pests are hidden for the winter and thereby save the plant from their influence, in addition, this will allow the sun to quickly warm up the strawberry root system. Between the rows, the soil must be loosened very well, especially if you still leave some of the powder, although this is not recommended.

Caring for strawberries in the spring necessarily involves feeding the bushes. To do this, you need to dilute 2 cups of mushy mullein and 1 tablespoon of ammonium in 10 liters of water. Each bush receives 1 liter of fertilizer. There is no need to remove old leaves of bushes in bushes that have not yet grown; this can be done later, when the young ones grow up.

For strawberries in the second year of fruiting, when loosening the soil, add wood ash at the rate of 2 cups per 1 sq.m.In addition, strawberries also need to be fertilized before flowering. It is best to use potassium sulfate (1 tsp) + nitrophoska (2 tbsp) per 10 liters of water and add half a liter to each bush.

Great article! I wish there were more such informative and interesting materials! Although there are a lot of them on this site - which is very wonderful! May I know if your advice regarding fertilizing applies to all types of strawberries?

Dear Author!
