Strawberry Lord - variety features

strawberry

Gardeners are often dissatisfied with certain popular varieties of garden plants. But often people themselves are to blame for the fact that the plant does not meet the declared parameters, because they simply do not properly care for a certain variety. But each variety is unique and requires certain conditions of maintenance and care.

Landing

The Lord strawberry became such a berry, illegally accused by many gardeners. Many complained that this variety is characterized by rapid growth and thickening of bushes, as a result of which the berries rot in the thick leaves or are not sweet enough due to the fact that they do not have enough sun.

But if grow properly Lord variety, it will not cause any trouble, but will delight you with large and tasty berries. What needs to be taken into account when growing Lord strawberries?

Lord is a perennial strawberry that responds very well to abundant fertilizing with organic fertilizers. Thanks to them, the weight of the berries and the richness of their taste increase dramatically.

To prevent strawberry bushes from turning into impassable jungle, at the time of planting they should be placed in a checkerboard pattern, and not one after another in the garden bed. Then each bush will have enough space to grow, and the berries will have enough sunlight to ripen and ventilate, which will help avoid gray rot.Of course, you should promptly loosen the soil around the strawberry bushes, remove the tendrils and water it. To support the flower stalks, it is recommended to install pegs or slingshots so that the berries do not touch the ground, do not rot, and are carried above the surface of the bush in the sun.

Mulching

To get a harvest in any weather and not waste effort on weed control, Lord's landing mulch well with pine needles.

When the period of return frosts has passed, the old leaves are removed from the strawberry bushes. At the moment when young strawberry leaves appear, the entire plot is covered with a 5 cm layer of dry pine needles. Weeds do not grow through the coniferous flooring, and when watering from a watering can, the soil does not become compacted.

Mulching saves the effort of frequent watering and loosening throughout the season. During rains, a mulch layer protects the Lord's berries from contamination.

All worries about caring for the Lord until the end of the berry picking come down to feeding, watering and rationing the young bushes. Usually, two tendrils are left per bush with one or two first rosettes. To root them, it is necessary to move the needles apart and, if the rosette “does not obey,” pin it to the ground.

Lord

After harvesting, many gardeners prefer to remove the needles from the plot, dry them in the sun, then store them in ventilated areas until spring. So the mulch layer can last 4 years without adding new needles.

About the timing of site changes

Since Lord is demanding of soil fertility just like all strawberries, it is advisable to grow it continuously in one place for no more than 4 years. If this is not possible, gardeners carefully fill the plots with organic matter and extend the life of their “strawberry meadows” for decades.

It is necessary to add only mature organic matter (manure humus, compost), since Lord’s root system is located close to the surface and can get burned. In addition, it is necessary to protect your favorite variety from diseases and pests. Since spraying strawberries with chemicals is dangerous to health, parsley, marigolds, marigolds, and garlic are planted between the rows.

Parsley will protect the berries from slug invasion. Marigolds and marigolds are from nematodes. Garlic perfectly protects plants from pathogenic fungi.

Regulation of harvest timing

On the site, using simple methods, you can shift the timing of the ripening of the Lord to a later period, or to an earlier one. You can shift the deadline by 2 weeks and lengthen the overall period of Lord’s harvest by delaying the beginning of the growing season. This is achieved by covering the strawberries in early spring with sawdust and straw at a time when the snow has not yet melted.

On the contrary, to accelerate ripening, early vegetation is stimulated by covering the plantations with various film covers. You can cover Lord with film when the air temperature rises above -5 degrees. At first, carefully monitor the tightness of the shelter. Then make sure that the temperature does not exceed 25 degrees.

For plant pollination (at an outside air temperature of about 5 degrees) during flowering, shelters need to be ventilated. For this purpose, the film is lifted from the sides of the greenhouse. If the danger of night frosts has passed, then the film does not need to be closed at night.

During the period of active berry growth, the covering film is not opened for ventilation. And when the berries begin to turn red, the coverings can be completely removed.

As you can see, the Lord strawberry is not as whimsical as many thought; you just need to know about some of the nuances of its cultivation, so as not to label this wonderful variety as unsuccessful.

Comments

It is true that each variety requires special care, and sometimes also a special climate! I tried to grow this variety on my plot twice - to no avail! I read somewhere that it simply does not take root in the northern regions of Siberia!
