Blueberry agricultural technology

For each plant there are individual cultivation techniques aimed at obtaining a high yield.

Blueberry agricultural technology includes a set of specific measures for soil preparation and fertilization, planting and care, as well as harvesting.

Blueberry is a perennial shrub whose height can reach 80 centimeters. The plant loves warmth and light, so it is necessary to choose an appropriate sunny place on the site.

Acidic and loose soil is suitable for growing blueberries. A mixture of peat and sand works well, and there should be three times more peat. It is also recommended to add mineral fertilizers to the soil at the rate of 30 g per square meter before planting the shrub.

For blueberries, it is advisable to choose a sunny place protected from the wind. It is recommended to plant in rows with a distance of about 150cm between them, and about 120cm between bushes. Blueberries love moisture very much, so at first after planting they should be watered daily for a week, and then 2 times a week, and in hot weather it can be done more often as the soil dries out. It is recommended to mulch the planting hole with sawdust with a layer of about 7 cm.

Caring for blueberries involves not only watering, but also feeding, pruning and disease prevention.

Typically, fertilizers are applied twice: in early spring and in June. It is recommended to feed with complex fertilizer azofoska.

Both old and young bushes need pruning. Usually weak and diseased branches, as well as small growths, are removed. Only strong shoots are left.

To prevent various diseases, spraying with various chemical compounds, for example, copper oxychloride, is used.

Blueberry agricultural technology is not so complicated, therefore, to obtain a high-quality harvest, it is necessary to follow basic agricultural techniques.
