Processing strawberries in spring: getting ready for the new berry season

Spring will soon fully come into its own, and the gardener now needs to think about how to prepare the strawberry plot for the new season. It is not advisable to grow strawberries in one place for more than 4 years, since various fungi and infections accumulate in the soil and affect the root system. If you notice that you have a lot of dry bushes that did not survive the winter, this is a signal that you need to look for a new area.

What does strawberry processing involve in spring? Experts in berry care advise removing the top layer of soil between the bushes and thus getting rid of many pests. If you can’t do this, then you definitely need to loosen the soil between the rows, at least to a depth of 6-8 cm, and clear the area of weeds.

All old dead leaves are removed from the bushes and only then fertilizer is applied. Make a solution from a tablespoon of ammonium sulfate, two glasses of mullein, which are diluted with 10 liters of water. At least a liter of fertilizer is applied under the bush. After each fertilizing or rain, it is advisable to loosen the soil.

The second feeding of strawberries is done before flowering. Fertilizer composition: 2 tablespoons of nitrophoska and a teaspoon of potassium sulfate per 10 liters of water. All fertilizers are applied at the root of the bush.

If the spring turns out to be dry, then it is advisable to water the strawberry bushes. It is important to remember that if flowers appear, pour water only under the bush so as not to harm them.In case of heavy rainfall, it is recommended to cover the blooming strawberries with film.

Proper processing of strawberries in spring is the key to a high and high-quality harvest.
