When cherries ripen

Cherries are one of the most favorite berries for many children and adults. Ripe, sweet fruits bring a lot of pleasure and benefits to the body. Vitamin C and carotene, nicotinic acid, iodine and many other useful substances are hidden in their pulp. In addition, cherries can be called a natural aphrodisiac. It strengthens blood vessels, is useful for thyroid diseases, has antianemic and choleretic properties, is good for the kidneys and perfectly tones the body.

Cherry loves warmth, so it is often considered a southern plant. However, with climate warming and the development of selection, this tree can be found in the northern part of the middle zone. Good winter-hardy varieties that will not freeze every year are: Fatezh, Krymskaya, Cheremashnaya, Tyutchevka, Raditsa, Ostuzhevka, Malysh, Leningradskaya Chernaya, Poeziya, etc. When planting cherries, you need to remember that they are not self-fertile. Therefore, place several simultaneously flowering varieties side by side.

When the cherries ripen, there is still almost nothing in the garden. The very first berries may appear as early as early May (this depends on the variety and climate). It opens the fruit season and supplies a person with the first vitamins and microelements. Early varieties are usually not suitable for processing or preservation. They are used as table berries. These cherries are distinguished by soft and juicy pulp and colorless juice. They are not transportable and deteriorate faster. Middle and late varieties are already more elastic, the juice may be slightly colored. They are best used for compotes and other preparations for the winter.

By July, the cherries are usually already collected, and what is not collected will go to the birds. Starlings are very fond of this berry, and they often compete with humans to see who can harvest the crop the fastest.
