Planting blackberries in spring

Blackberries are a very high-yielding plant, and their fruits are rich in vitamins and microelements. You can pick blackberries in forests and parks, but you can also grow them in your own garden. Blackberries are quite soft and very wrinkled. their shelf life does not exceed several days.

The best time to plant blackberries is spring. Blackberries should be planted earlier in the spring, before the plant begins to leaf out. Blackberry bushes are placed approximately every two meters, while the plant should be planted no deeper than half a meter. After planting, the plant can be pruned to 25-30 cm. Blackberries are also pruned annually in early spring.

There is no need to care for blackberries very scrupulously; they are quite hardy, but love moisture and light. Therefore, it is better to place the bushes of the plant on the south-eastern side near a fence or fence, and during active growth and fruit formation, water it if there is a lack of natural moisture. In addition, in its care it is necessary to weed it from weeds, as well as loosen the soil, especially in the first year after planting blackberries in the spring. It is advisable to tie up grown blackberries and provide them with support.

Blackberries are also quite hardy in relation to cold weather. Therefore, there is no need to sprinkle it with sawdust or snow in winter. But at the end of autumn it is advisable to carry out pre-winter water-recharging irrigation.

Blackberries are fertilized in the third year after planting twice a year - in spring and autumn, and if the growth and development of the bushes is poor, you can feed them with bird droppings in early June.

Comments

In my experience, blackberries are very sensitive to drought, so I always planted them in mid-autumn, before the start of winter they have time to take root a little and tolerate frosts well. And when planting in spring, there are problems even with abundant watering.

To prevent blackberries from drying out after planting, they must be pruned, because the roots have not yet developed and they will not be able to fully feed the plant. Therefore, if there is no pruning, then no amount of watering will help.
