At what temperature and when to plant cucumbers in a greenhouse

Cucumber harvest

Cucumber, along with tomatoes, is found in every garden and cottage. Despite their meager nutritional value, cucumbers are very rich in mineral salts and vitamins. It can be eaten at any age. It cleanses the liver well and has a beneficial effect on the cardiovascular system. Yes, it’s hard to imagine a feast without cucumber.

A larger harvest of cucumbers, of course, can be obtained from a greenhouse than from open ground. The first danger for a cucumber is cold. Therefore, every gardener wonders when to plant cucumbers in a greenhouse.

Cucumbers can be planted:

  1. Using seeds is not a labor-intensive method, but there is a high probability of growing a lot of barren flowers.
  2. Seedlings are a more common way of growing cucumbers. Sprouted cucumber seeds are planted in peat pots on the 20th of April; they germinate at temperatures from +23 to +25 in three days. At the same temperature, the cucumbers grow until they gain enough strength to endure transplantation without any problems. This occurs on the 20-23rd day of seedling life.

Optimal temperature for planting cucumber

If the time has come when cucumbers are planted in a greenhouse, and the temperature in it has not yet reached 20 degrees (in the first days, preferably up to 25), then the temperature can be raised artificially. To do this, they bury sawdust, rotting hay or manure into the beds to a depth of 50-60 centimeters.

When to plant cucumbers in a greenhouse

When 3-4 leaves appear on the seedlings, it means it’s time to replant it in the ground. If we planted the seeds on the twentieth of April, and 20-23 days have passed, then the seedlings should be replanted on May 10-15.

But first, the soil should be disinfected with a solution of potassium permanganate. To do this, put 3 grams of manganese in a bucket of boiling water and water the ground generously.

And do not forget that the cucumber is a fan of moisture, and it needs to be fed every 8 - 10 days.

Comments

Most often I plant cucumbers with seeds directly into the ground, I also tried options with a greenhouse, but when transplanting the plants I often get sick, and they often die. In our region, by the end of April there are practically no cold nights, so my cucumber harvest is usually quite good even without a greenhouse.
