The jackdaws ate the corn

In the evening I saw that two rows of sweet corn were already puffed up with tubercles: they were about to sprout. And some have even stuck their knees out of the ground. In the morning I went out into the garden after breakfast and almost had a heart attack: instead of seedlings, there were funnel-shaped pits and not a single sprout! There are only traces of jackdaws on the damp soil around.

No wonder: you had breakfast, and so did the jackdaws. How not to be flattered by a sweet grain, and even a sprouted, healthy one! Large birds specialize in such dirty tricks, keeping watch nearby and keeping an eye on the beds. And to discourage them, before sowing, you need to treat the grain with something with a pungent odor: garlic infusion, kerosene.
