Overgrown tomato seedlings: what to do?

Tomatoes are many people's favorite vegetable. Every gardener necessarily grows seedlings of his favorite varieties. With proper, not at all complicated care, they delight us with delicious fruits, which are eaten fresh, added to various dishes, preserved for the winter, and made into tasty and healthy juice. Unfortunately, it happens that we end up with overgrown tomato seedlings. There may be several reasons for this: it was sown early, it was a very cloudy spring, the seedlings were located on the eastern window in a hot room, the onset of heat was late, when the seedlings can already be planted in open or closed ground.

What can you do if you end up with overgrown tomato seedlings? If there is still time before planting in the ground, you can simply cut it in half, put the upper part in water for rooting, and then plant it in the ground. The lower part of the cut plant will develop from some lateral shoot. Thus, you will receive twice as many seedlings, but the tomatoes on them will begin to ripen a couple of weeks later than if you planted regular, not overgrown seedlings.

If the time has come for overgrown seedlings to be planted in the ground, then they are planted almost horizontally, sprinkled with earth almost to the top. The underground part will give a powerful root system and the result will be a full-fledged tomato bush, which in the future will give the expected harvest. But, of course, if the garden is not near the house, then you still need to be able to bring such seedlings to the garden without breaking them, which is very difficult.Therefore, it is better to sow the seeds no earlier than the end of March and provide them with good lighting, then you will get strong, healthy seedlings.
