Radishes are beautiful, tasty and healthy, and are the first spring vegetable. Despite the fact that it is used only in salads, radishes are extremely popular among gardeners. There are tricks to growing radishes and getting a good harvest. Firstly, radishes love short daylight hours; it is better to sow them as soon as the snow melts, first covering them with film. In hot summers, ordinary radishes bolt, but the root crop does not ripen (more on exceptions later). Radishes should not be planted in a place where their close relatives (cabbage, daikon, radish) were previously cultivated. But if you bury green manure in the ground in the fall and then plant radishes, you will get excellent seedlings.

Radishes also do not like fresh organic fertilizers. It should be planted rarely, at a distance of 4-5 cm, otherwise it needs to be thinned out, otherwise you won’t get a harvest, all your energy will go into the greenery. The main enemies of radishes are flea beetles; they can be easily dealt with using wood ash. The plant requires frequent watering, it is very moisture-loving. Of course, you need to regularly weed and loosen. That's actually all the secrets.

I’ll also tell you how to grow radishes in a greenhouse with cucumbers. I grow them on compost, without manure. While the cucumbers are very small, I sow radishes between them, it grows well until the cucumbers begin to block the sun for it.

Recently, completely new varieties of radishes have appeared, for example “Duro” or “Russian Size”. Not only is this a very large radish, it is also resistant to bolting and disease. These varieties can be sown every two weeks, all summer, with an excellent harvest.
