Supergiant fruits
Tomatoes are very popular among summer residents pink giant. Why did they get this name? It's not just about the size of the fetus. The bushes of this tomato variety reach very large sizes. Even in greenhouse conditions they can grow up to 1.5 meters. And if they grow in open ground, the height of the bushes can reach 5 meters. The bush branches heavily. The brush can be simple or complex.
Usually the fruits weigh 200-300 grams, but under particularly favorable conditions, these tomatoes can reach a weight of 2 kg, which is truly impressive. But there are not many of them on a bush: you can see 2-4 tomatoes, occasionally 5. Usually one bush produces 2.5-3 kilograms of fruit. If the plant is provided with good care, then one bush can easily produce 10-20 kilograms of fruit.
Tomatoes have a flat-round shape and pink-raspberry color. These tomatoes taste sweetish, very meaty and sugary, and contain little liquid. Their taste qualities are highly valued by both amateurs and specialists.
Such tomatoes are stored for a very long time and are easily transported.
Ideal variety for salads
Pink giant tomatoes produce very large fruits.This variety is not suitable for preservation. Besides, the tomato won't fit into the jar. But you can’t find a better variety for salad: one tomato is enough to prepare a salad for the whole family. The bunch can contain tomatoes of different sizes. Therefore, each family member can pick both large and smaller fruits. And they ripen quite early: the pink giant belongs to mid-early varieties.
Sowing seeds
The pink giant requires more attention and care compared to small-fruited varieties. In order to get a rich harvest, you need to take care in advance of growing high-quality seedlings.
Collecting seeds for sowing causes considerable difficulty due to the fact that the fruits contain very few seeds or none at all.
It is recommended to process tomato seeds:
- disinfect with a solution of potassium permanganate;
- soak in a solution of a growth stimulator;
- vernalize in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.
Then the seeds should be soaked and waited 3-5 days for them to germinate. Sprouted seeds are planted in pots and placed in a well-lit place.
Pink Giant Seeds sown in early March; at room temperature, seedlings appear on the fifth day. After the seedlings have sprouted, the temperature should not be higher than 16 degrees so that the seedlings do not stretch. Also, to prevent stretching, seedlings are treated with Atlet. After a week, the temperature can be raised to 22 degrees.
Plant care
The variety is suitable as for greenhouse cultivation, and for growing in open ground. For tomatoes, choose a sunny place where the plants will be protected from cold winds.Seedlings of pink giants are not planted as densely as conventional varieties: from 1 to 3 bushes are placed per square meter. The 70cmX70cm pattern is often used.
If, despite all efforts, it was not possible to avoid the seedlings from overgrowing, then they should be planted to the maximum depth, placing part of the stem in the hole.
Pink giants need reliable support: high posts or trellis. Usually 1 stem is left on the plant, sometimes 2-3. Stepchildren should be removed regularly.
To get supergiant fruits, you need to regulate the number of clusters on the plant and the number of fruits in the cluster. On inflorescences that can have up to 8 flowers, leave no more than 4. If this is not done, the fruits will be of medium size.
From the time of germination to the appearance of the first fruits, usually 115-120 days pass.
The soil around the bushes is loosened. In order for the plants to produce additional roots, they are hilled. Watering is rare but plentiful.
The pink giant is capable of unlimited growth. Therefore, when a certain growth is reached, the top of the plant is pinched.
Old leaves that begin to turn yellow are removed. As a result of leaf removal, plants receive more sunlight, are less susceptible to disease and produce better fruit.
The pink giant variety is moderately resistant to diseases.
We pay special attention to feeding
Organic and mineral fertilizers are applied to large-fruited varieties in doses that are 1.5-2 times higher than the application rates for other varieties. When planting, humus (1-2 buckets), superphosphate (150-200 grams), potash fertilizers (100 grams), nitrogen fertilizers (100 grams) and wood ash (300-500 grams) are placed in each hole. You can use complex fertilizers.
It is imperative to feed the plants in a timely manner during flowering and fruit setting.
If you want to get a good harvest, then you should choose the pink giant variety.
