Youth cherry: description of the variety, rules of planting and growing

Cherry is almost as popular as apple, pear and plum trees. Cherry orchards are a long-standing sign of domestic dachas and estates; Chekhov’s “The Cherry Orchard” is a clear confirmation of this. Withdrawal varieties I.V. Michurin himself studied cherry and its hybrids with bird cherry. His work was continued by his students; they developed many new varieties, including youth cherries, the variety description of which is given below.

Cherry "Youth", description, advantages and disadvantages
Famous breeders S.N. worked on the variety. Satarova and Kh. D. Enikeev. Quite old varieties were chosen for selection, which can safely be attributed to varieties of folk selection, since the exact origin of the “Vladimirskaya” and “Lyubskaya” cherries, which became the parent forms for “Molodezhnaya”, is unknown.
Since 1993, the medium-ripening variety "Molodezhnaya" has been recommended for cultivation in the Central region, including the Moscow region. It is distinguished by low trees, up to 2.5 m, and very often grows in bush form. The crown is quite compact, rounded, and the branches are slightly drooping. The leaf blades are bright green with jagged edges. Fruiting was noted both on bouquet branches and on growths from the previous year.
The fruits are large in size, oval in shape, and have a very dark burgundy color when ripe. Average weight cherries up to 4.5 g. The stone is medium-sized, easily separated from the dense and juicy pulp. The berries have a very pleasant dessert taste, sweet, with a pleasant sourness. The juice is dark red. Cherry "Molodezhnaya" can be considered a universal variety.
Its fruits are good both for fresh eating and for processing into jams, preserves, syrups, juices, wine and compotes. The winter hardiness of the tree itself is above average, however, it should be noted that the resistance to low temperatures of flower buds is very average. The advantages of the variety are:
- high yield
- precociousness
- self-fertility
- annual fruiting
- fruits of good taste and attractive appearance
The disadvantages of the variety include:
- resistance to coccomycosis by 2-3 points
- average resistance to moniliosis and other fungal infections
How to plant "Youth"
Selecting a location
The best thing cherry will grow in a sunny place, protected from the north wind, but with good ventilation. The site should have loose soil with a neutral reaction. Even on slightly acidic soil, cherry trees will grow worse; in addition, their resistance to fungal infections will be greatly reduced.
If the soil is still acidic, then a year before planting you need to add lime. It is not recommended to deoxidize the soil immediately before planting cherries. Otherwise, the seedling will take root very poorly and may not take root at all. Important! Cherry trees should not be placed in low or damp places.
Preparing for landing
The area needs to be dug up in the fall. When digging, it is advisable to add 10 kg of humus per square meter.and 30-40 g of complex mineral fertilizer, if the soil is poor. The amount of fertilizer is reduced by half if the planting of cherries is planned on fertile land.
If seedlings were purchased in the fall, then they need to be buried at an angle, protected from rodents and stored until spring. Seedlings can be bought in the spring, but their buds should not be open. It is best to choose annual seedlings no lower than 0.8 m or biennial trees about 110 cm high.

A hole measuring 0.6 m by 0.6 m is prepared for planting. A mound of fertile soil is poured onto the bottom. The plant is installed in the hole so that the root collar is at ground level. The hole is covered with soil, the plant is watered with 1-2 buckets of water and the place glaze mulch with peat or compost.
Cherry tree care
It is important to organize at least two waterings per season; the first time, in the absence of precipitation, the trees are watered immediately after the end of flowering, when the ovary begins to form. The second mandatory watering is carried out after harvesting. Important! You should not water cherries 3-4 weeks before the fruits ripen. To prevent diseases, it is necessary to remove all plant debris in spring and autumn, especially fallen leaves and broken twigs.
Spraying trees twice with a 3% solution of Bordeaux mixture in the spring is a good preventative measure against fungal and other diseases.
The first time the cherries are sprayed before the leaves bloom, and the second time the procedure is carried out immediately after flowering. In wet years and when the plantings are too dense, the plants can be sprayed in the fall, when all the cherries have been picked from the trees. Cherry trees need pruning. It is best to do it on a warm spring day before the buds open.First of all, you need to trim off all damaged and broken branches.
After this, carefully examine the tree and cut out the branches that grow inside the crown. After this, the root shoots are cut off if there is no goal of getting a new plant. If care for the Molodezhnaya cherry tree is organized correctly, its trees will live and bear fruit for at least 15 years.
The benefits of cherry berries
Cherry berries, especially those like the Molodezhnaya variety with colored dark juice, are a source of vitamins and macro-microelements. They are recommended for use in cases of vitamin deficiencies and anemia. But cherry berries are of particular importance for those who are prone to or suffer from gout.
Eating fresh cherries every day not only cleanses the body of toxins, but also reduces uric acid levels. If there is an opportunity to eat fresh cherries during the season, then this must be done daily, eating 20 - 30 berries on an empty stomach several times a day.
In addition to berries, you can dry cherry leaves and take their decoction as a diuretic or expectorant. In addition, cherry leaf tea is useful for heart rhythm disorders and high blood pressure. A decoction of the leaves can also be used externally as compresses for joint pain. So it's worth plant 2-3 trees of the Molodezhnaya variety per plot to provide the family with tasty and healthy cherries.
