What you need to know about cyclamen transplantation
Cyclamen needs transplantation in several cases:
- after purchasing in a store, since most often the plant is in a peat mixture, which contains a large amount of growth stimulants, and not in the soil
- after prolonged cultivation in the same soil, which leads to leaching of nutrients and depletion of the soil
- after the roots have mastered the pot, in this case the roots have grown so much that there is almost no free soil left
- in case of overmoistening and rotting of the tuber, in this case, during replanting, you need to remove the rotten places
- during the dormant period for the purpose of reproduction
If the plant is not on time transplant, then delay threatens the cyclamen with diseases, lack of flowers, yellowness and wilting of the leaves. Sometimes untimely or incorrect replanting can cause the death of a plant.
Best time to transplant
Planned replanting of cyclamen should be carried out at the same time of year. The plant should not be replanted during the period of bud formation and flowering. Most often, the flower is replanted in mid-summer, when the plant is just entering the stage of active leaf growth. If you brought a flower from the store while it is blooming, then it is advisable to wait until the end of flowering.
Important! When signs of waterlogging and rotting of the tuber appear, the plant is replanted immediately.

What is needed for transplantation
To transfer passed without problems, you need to take care of the following things in advance:
- about the soil mixture
- about the new potty
- about small pebbles or expanded clay
- about a sharp knife
- about crushed coal
The soil mixture is made up of:
- 2 parts leaf soil
- 1 part sand
- 1 part peat
- 1 part humus
All ingredients must be baked in the oven for about one hour before mixing. Do the same with drainage material. The new pot should not be too big. In order for the plant to feel good in the new container, the pot must be 15 - 20 mm larger in diameter than the old one. When choosing a pot, you can focus on the distance from the tuber to the walls; it should be 30 mm.
If the age of the plant is known, then for cyclamens aged 12 - 18 months, a container with a diameter of 8 cm is suitable. If the flower is more than three years old, then you can choose a pot with a diameter of 15 cm. Sometimes, for example, when transplantation after purchase or if the tuber rots, the new pot can be the same size as the old one.
Preparing the flower
If the plant is replanted regularly, it does not require special preparation. To make it easier for the plant to come out of the pot, you can keep it in a tray with water for a day or two so that the earthen lump is saturated with water. This procedure cannot be carried out if the transplant is associated with waterlogging and rotting of the tuber. If everything is ready, then the transplant is not difficult.
Procedure for transplanting cyclamen
The transplantation procedure must begin by filling the pot. To do this you should:
- check for drainage holes in the pot
- if necessary, make three or four small holes
- cover the bottom of the pot with drainage material
- pour a layer of soil at such a height that the entire tuber fits in the pot
The next step is to remove the plant from the old pot and carefully shake off excess soil from the root system. Sometimes drainage particles can get tangled between the roots. If possible, they should be selected manually. The freed roots need to be inspected.
Cut off all damaged, dried roots with a clean knife. If there are signs of rot on the tuber, then it is cut back to healthy tissue. The wound surface should be sprinkled with crushed coal. Place the prepared cyclamen in a new pot and sprinkle on all sides of the tuber priming, compact it slightly.
If Persian cyclamen is replanted, then the upper part of the tuber should be above the soil surface. If we are talking about European cyclamen, then the tuber must be completely covered with soil. Important! There is an opinion among flower growers that, regardless of the type, when transplanting a flower, 1/3 of the tuber should be left above the ground.
Caring for cyclamen after transplantation
On the day of transplantation, the plant should be left alone. If the soil has dried out, then the next day you should pour cool water into the pan, which has settled at room temperature. In the future, watering can be done both through the pan and from above. In this case, you need to try to prevent water from getting on the leaves and the growing point.
In the first days, you should not expose the flower to bright sun and keep it in a too warm place. It is advisable to place the plant where the temperature is not higher than + 16 + 18 degrees.
The first feeding after transplantation should be no earlier than 21 days. For this purpose, a complex fertilizer for flowering plants, for example, Kemira-lux, is suitable. Feeding cyclamen is carried out only during the period of active growth and flowering.
If transfer If done correctly, new young leaves will begin to appear on the flower. If new leaves appear and begin to turn yellow and dry out, then most likely the pot is in the open sun. During the midday hours, you can protect it from the sun by attaching a piece of cotton fabric to the glass. The result of all efforts should be abundant and elegant flowering of cyclamen.

I have some kind of problem with cyclomen. No matter how many times I tried to grow it, nothing worked. I learned from an article about replanting cyclamen. I’ll try to follow the advice and hope that I will still be friends with cyclamen.
I realized that after the store a transplant was needed almost immediately when my next cyclamen died. It just so happened that the rose I bought at the same time was replanted a couple of days later. I felt sorry for the cyclamen - it bloomed profusely. So the rose is still blooming profusely, but the cyclomen has withered away. Now I have made it a rule to replant all flowers the next day. And now all my flowers are blooming profusely.
The cyclamen is growing, and naturally it needs to be replanted. The transplant itself is not complicated, you just need to carefully transplant the bulbs into new soil! Ready-made soil can be purchased in stores.
