Proper care and propagation of geraniums

care and propagation of geraniums

Geranium is probably the most common window sill flower. Everyone knows these houseplants from a young age - geranium is so popular that it can be seen in almost every second window, be it an apartment, clinic, office space, etc. It seems that this is a completely unpretentious flower - don’t forget to water it at least sometimes, and that’s it - beautiful flowering is guaranteed. But this, of course, is not true. Correct care and propagation of geraniums will allow you to get abundantly blooming flowerpots of various colors.

Let's start with reproduction. There are very, very many varieties of geraniums. But it is best to grow it with cuttings. By cutting strong, healthy branches into cuttings, you can get healthy offspring with preserved maternal properties. It is best to carry out this procedure in February-March. Then the plant has already rested from last year’s flowering and is preparing for a bright new life. It is best to place the cut stalk in a vessel with water, waiting for the roots to appear. You can dig the cutting into the ground and cover it with a jar, thus creating a certain microclimate. In this case, you need to carefully monitor the seedling - it may rot. But, in principle, pelargonium reproduces very easily.

Care for geraniums it is also not difficult. It is not picky about the soil and can easily tolerate a short drought, but there is no need to allow stagnation of water - the plant may die. Pelargonium is also not demanding of light. she loves light shade, sunlight, and can survive shading.

There is one grandmother's secret. If you water pelargonium in a tray(!) with boiling water(!!!), then it will not grow in height, but will simply produce huge inflorescences. Maybe there will be someone brave and try to water pelargonium this way? Good luck!

It was the first time I read that you can pour boiling water into a tray! Need to try.

I put the cuttings in water, and after a few days roots appear on them, and then I plant them in the ground.
