Gazebo: types and their description

Before you start building a gazebo, you need to decide on the place where it will be located. It can be located next to the house or deep in the area. It should be remembered that the gazebo next to the house should be built in the same style as the adjacent building.

When creating a project for a future gazebo, you should decide on the shape and size. The shape of the gazebo can be polygonal, rectangular or round. The easiest way is to build a rectangular gazebo with your own hands; you don’t need any special skills.

The polygonal shape is more complex in design and cannot be done without help. For a round gazebo you will need bendable material. Gazebos can be open without walls, partially or completely closed. In open gazebos, the spans between the supporting pillars are completely open or partially closed to the table level.

Closed gazebos require solid walls and glazing. They usually have a stove installed in them to make them comfortable during the cold season. The second option is less common. Most often, gazebos are made open.

Gazebo options for a summer residence

Before you start construction gazebo, you need to decide for what purpose it will be used. In most cases it is used as a place to relax. The size of the structure depends on what kind of company will gather in the gazebo.

You can place a summer kitchen in the gazebo, then you need to take care to equip it with a special stove, a table and a place to store dishes. Such a gazebo will be larger in size. If you plan to build a small gazebo, you can put a barbecue, table, sofa or chairs.

You can build a gazebo for one or two people. Then, instead of seats, you can use a hammock or sun loungers. For a gazebo, you can use various scrap materials that are left over after the construction of a house or other object.

Possible materials for constructing a gazebo

Metal. The metal frame is very durable and is practically not subject to seasonal soil movements. In addition, it is lightweight and is a fire-resistant material. However, such a gazebo has low thermal insulation and requires constant care.

Logs or vines. A wooden gazebo has an attractive appearance and goes well with other materials. The design is easy and simple to assemble. Vine. A wicker gazebo will transform any area and bring originality. No special costs are required for its construction, the main thing is to be able to weave correctly according to the basket principle.

Brick.Brick construction is durable and has low heat transfer. Such a gazebo does not need to be constantly maintained and, if necessary, can be converted.

Polycarbonate. This design option is characterized by ease of installation, low cost, and external diversity. Polycarbonate is a very durable and fire-resistant material. At low temperatures it does not deform.

You can make a combined gazebo from several materials. This way you can reduce material consumption and increase the quality of the design. Corrugated sheeting or polycarbonate goes well with wooden and stone gazebos. For the frame, you can use wooden beams and cover them with chain-link.

A design made from plastic bottles will look original and creative. You will need a large number of bottles and a rigid base for the frame. The simplest option for making a gazebo is from wood. This material is environmentally friendly, durable and quick to build.

What to prepare for work

Before starting construction, it is necessary to draw up a diagram or plan for the future structure. This will help calculate the required amount of material. To build a gazebo, you should prepare the following materials:

  • Dry beams section 10x10 mm
  • Edged board thickness of at least 2 cm
  • Armature
  • Ruberoid
  • Piles
  • Corners
  • Sand
  • Crushed stone
  • Cement

From tools To build a wooden gazebo you will need nails, a drill, a level, a hammer, and a jigsaw. Next, you can begin building the gazebo.

The main stages of construction of a gazebo

Whatever material you choose for the gazebo, the construction process will include the same steps.

Small gazebo

Preparation and marking of the territory. The area for construction of the gazebo should be cleared of debris, bushes removed and trees cut down. The place for the gazebo should be level and open, away from the barn and country toilet. Drive pegs into the corners, pull the cord along them and check the diagonals. They must be equal. Then dig a pit to fill the foundation.

Pouring the foundation. As a foundation, you can use strip, columnar or tiled foundation. A columnar foundation is the simplest and most cost-effective option for building a gazebo. Support posts should be located in the corners every 2 meters. You can use metal pipes or logs as support.

The depth of the pits for the pillars should be about 70 cm, and the diameter of the pit should be 10 cm larger than the diameter of the pillar. Pour sand and crushed stone about 10 cm thick into the bottom. Metal pillars should rise 15-20 cm above the surface. Insert reinforcement into each hole and fill with concrete. Fill in the remaining space soil and stones and compact well.

Floor installation. The floor in a rectangular gazebo is very easy to make. One beam will be transverse, and the remaining four are laid around the perimeter. The bars must first be treated with an antiseptic solution. Then cut to the width of the gazebo. They are secured to concrete reinforcement, having previously drilled holes in the beams.

Construction of the frame and roof. Next, the poles are strung onto the reinforcement and leveled. You can secure the pole with boards, securing it diagonally. At this stage it is important to sand the posts, as this will be difficult to do once installed.

In the upper part of the pillars, make recesses measuring 40x100 mm into which rafter boards will be inserted. The roof can be made single-pitched, gable or hipped. To create it you will need 100x50 mm boards. The connection is made via technologies half a tree.

Fasten the joints with self-tapping screws. Then install the roof frame on the support in the grooves and secure with nails or bolts. Next, the sheathing is done. You can use slate, tiles, corrugated sheets, etc. Installation of railings. At a certain height, fasten the boards between the pillars. There is no need to make a railing on one side to enter the gazebo.

Wall cladding. For cladding, you can use any material: boards, slate, sheet metal, etc. The walls can be made solid or lattice. It all depends on the style and design of the structure.

At the final stage, it is necessary to fill the gazebo with furniture and install electricity. The technology for constructing a wooden gazebo is not complicated, so anyone without experience in construction can master it.

If you have the skills to perform welding work, and also have a household welding transformer, then it is much easier to build a gazebo from a profile pipe. Cover the top of the roof rafters with OSB sheets and install a roof of bitumen tiles. This coating will not make noise during rain.
