Rules for growing hanger mushrooms at home
These mushrooms can be grown at home. This does not require much effort, just follow simple rules. To grow oyster mushrooms, it is necessary to carry out some procedures.
- Substrate preparation.To do this, use straw, sunflower husks, buckwheat husks, parts of corn, for example, leaves or cobs. You can combine these materials with wood sawdust. The main thing is that the substrate is not spoiled. All components are crushed and combined.
- Buying mycelium. This material is sold prepackaged. There are packages with a capacity of 1-4 kg. You should know that 300 g of mycelium will be required per 10 kg of moistened substrate.
- If you plan to plant several bags, then initially you need to weigh the substrate. After this, the required amount of mycelium is determined.
- Heat treatment of the substrate. It is necessary to prepare a large container in which the crushed substrate will be boiled. It is filled with water.
You need to take enough of it so that the liquid covers the surface. The substrate is cooked for 2 hours. Next, the mixture is cooled and excess moisture is removed. Preparing containers. It is best to get huge bags that can hold 10 kg of moistened substrate. But this is not a mandatory requirement, as smaller packages can be used. They must be kept in a weak solution of bleach, and after this procedure they must be washed.
Filling containers. The bags are filled in layers: 5 cm of substrate is poured, and 0.5 cm of mycelium. Once the bag is full, it is tied and cut every 10 cm.
Incubation. Filled bags are left in a clean room, the air temperature should be maintained for 10 days in the range of 18-22 degrees. It is recommended to hang the containers or place them on racks. The main thing is that there are no insects in the room, but there is an opportunity to ventilate it.When the temperature of the substrate rises above 30 degrees, it is necessary to ventilate. You can use a fan for this. After 4 days, a mycelium will appear in the mushroom block.
It resembles a raid. On the 10th day, the package will be overgrown with mycelium. Fruiting. When the bag has become overgrown with mycelium, the temperature must be reduced to 10-15 degrees. In addition, it is worth lighting the bags at least 8 hours a day. Air humidity should be high; for this, the walls and floor are moistened. The main thing is that water does not get on the blocks. Repeated fruiting. After harvesting, the room must be ventilated and wait for the second wave of hanger mushrooms to appear. This will happen after 2 weeks. It is recommended to ensure that the air temperature remains at 15 degrees. If you grow mushrooms at home, you can harvest up to 4 times from the same material. After this, it is necessary to change the blocks, since the number of hanger mushrooms will noticeably decrease.
Growing oyster mushrooms on stumps
This method takes more time, but its implementation requires spending a minimum of money. The harvest can only be obtained during the mushroom season, as it depends on weather conditions. More in winter it is necessary to prepare the stumps. They must have healthy bark that is not covered with mold. Stumps should be left in a dry place for storage.

Before planting material is added, the stumps are soaked for 3 days. This method increases the humidity level, which is important for future myceliums. In May, stumps with mycelium should be taken outside.At this time, the risk of frost is already reduced. Mycelium is sown using different methods.
The stumps are perforated. The depth of the holes should be up to 6 cm, and their diameter should be 10 mm. Mycelium is poured into these holes, and then they are covered with tape or moss. To grow oyster mushrooms in this way, you need to purchase mycelium in grains. If sticks are used, then they are inserted into the holes and sealed with plasticine. A disk is cut from the log, which has a thickness of 3 cm.
The mycelium is placed on the end of the stump, and then covered with this disk. To ensure that it is well fixed, it is hammered with nails. Some people make a pyramid out of stumps. A layer of mycelium of 2 cm is applied to each end. When it is realized sowing, you need to move the stumps to the basement, where the temperature should be 15 degrees. It is worth choosing a suitable place for stumps in the garden. To do this, you should choose an area in the shade. For this reason, they are often placed near trees with dense foliage, which will shield them from the scorching sun.
First, holes are dug, then moistened leaves are laid out in them and logs are placed. They should be 15 cm deep into the soil. There should be about 0.5 m between each stump. Next, minimal maintenance should be carried out. It is systematically necessary to moisten the soil near the stumps. At the end of August or September, oyster mushrooms will appear. If the weather is warm, then the harvest is harvested before the end of autumn.
As winter approaches, it is worth protecting your logs from the cold. To do this, they are covered with leaves and straw. For several years, hanger mushrooms will systematically appear on stumps.
