Mushrooms

You will need to thoroughly prepare for growing mushrooms, for starters - study the principles of agricultural technology, choose a suitable place, stock up on substrate, and of course - mycelium.

An important step will be choosing the appropriate species; beginners are advised to pay attention to oyster mushrooms, Champignon, honey mushrooms, they are the least demanding of growing conditions and quickly produce a good harvest.

In addition, their production is the least expensive.

Experienced gardeners manage to grow forest species in the garden: chanterelles, boletus, porcini mushroom, but this undertaking is associated with significant costs required to create the necessary conditions.

Choosing the best place

The choice of location depends on the type of plant you choose. For example, oyster mushrooms or honey mushrooms will require a shaded area in the garden, but if desired, you can set up the process in a basement or greenhouse.

Champignons and bedible mushrooms will feel great in the garden, of course, if you can provide them with a high-quality soil composition and sufficient moisture.

Most often, basements are used for growing mushrooms - it is easier to provide the recommended temperature and air humidity in them.

Another advantage of the basement is that you do not need to worry about the possible spread of spores to other areas not intended for mushrooms.

It is desirable that the basement has two rooms, or it can be divided by a partition - for the normal development of the fungus at different stages the following is required:

  • different temperatures
  • different air humidity
  • the initial stages of mycelium germination require sterile air

It's also possible growing mushrooms on the windowsill, in your own home or apartment, in a jar filled with substrate. This is how honey mushrooms are usually cultivated, but using this method you can obtain other types of mushrooms.

For oyster mushrooms and honey mushrooms, an acceptable option would be to grow mushrooms on stumps, in their natural conditions. Stumps with mycelium can be placed in the garden or in a greenhouse.

What substrate will be required

The quality of the substrate significantly affects the yield volumes. The mixture is either purchased or made independently using:

  • straw
  • sawdust and waste from wood processing

Mandatory conditions that will accelerate the formation of fungal roots:

  • looseness of the substrate
  • absence of traces of rot and mold on it

It is recommended to buy ready-made mycelium - this will eliminate the possibility of it becoming infected with fungal infections and parasites.

Some useful tips

When growing honey mushrooms and oyster mushrooms, you can use plastic bags filled with nutrient substrate.

Champignons can be grown outdoors throughout the summer, or all year round in a specially equipped basement.

The productivity of shiitake will be ensured by placing the mycelium on stumps or sections of tree trunks, provided they are placed in a dark barn or basement, with sufficient humidity.

Of course, growing mushrooms in an apartment will allow you to obtain a small amount of product, exclusively for your own consumption. But as you gain experience, who knows, maybe you will consider growing mushrooms as an idea for family business
