The simplest and most effective way to plant onions is to sow sets. Onions sown in this way are more resistant to pests and germinate faster. For those who don’t know, sets are small bulbs obtained from onion seeds.

For the future harvest, it is very important to know how to plant onion sets correctly:

  • before planting the bulbs in the soil, they should be soaked in warm water (35 - 38 degrees) for 12 - 15 hours - this will speed up germination;
  • to stimulate the growth of greenery, the tops of the bulbs need to be trimmed, after which they should be sown no earlier than 3 to 4 days later;
  • An important condition for planting onion sets is the temperature regime. The optimal temperature is 10 - 15 degrees. You can plant at 20 degrees, but although at lower temperatures the feathers grow longer, they grow juicier and without bitterness;
  • onion sets are planted pressing 3 - 4 cm into the soil, the distance between rows is about 20 cm, and between the bulbs 8 - 10 cm;
  • the soil for planting onions should be sufficiently moist, loose, and free of weeds;
  • Choose an open, sunny place for the onion bed. It is best to prepare the site in advance, add organic fertilizers (humus), mineral fertilizers are also possible, but onion sets are not demanding on additional fertilizing.

In growing onions, the most important thing is to know how to plant onion sets correctly, since further care of the plant does not require special knowledge. The main thing is timely weeding, loosening the soil and preventing the shoots from being thrown away.
