How to properly care for strawberries

Everyone is welcome to enjoy delicious strawberries here. And here grow it in your dacha – this is a completely different matter. But for gardeners who love this business, nothing is too difficult or insurmountable. As the saying goes: if you really want to, you can still do something even worse.

Before buying or borrowing seedlings, you should find out how to properly care for strawberries, to be prepared for possible difficulties and overcome them with ease. To get a good harvest you will need to carry out the following activities:

  • weed control and soil loosening
  • watering
  • feeding
  • control of diseases and pests.

These are the four pillars on which all gardening science rests.

Start fighting weeds it is necessary at the beginning of spring, having cleared the strawberries from fallen leaves with a rake. Be sure to weed by hand near the bushes so as not to damage the roots. Ideally, loosening should be carried out after each rain and after fertilizing.

Watering strawberries
once every ten days, when there is no rain, in the morning. The water should not be cold. If it's the other way around summer is too rainy, it is recommended to cover the bed with agrofilm.

They feed sweet berries three times a year: in early spring (complex fertilizer), when buds are laid and fruits ripen (potassium fertilizers), after harvesting (complex fertilizer again).

To fight diseases
There are special preparations and solutions. For example, phytosporin saves from fungal diseases, an iodine solution from gray rot and weevils, and a potassium permanganate solution from powdery mildew.

Throughout the growing season strawberry mustache removed. This helps the plant direct all its energy to producing fruits, instead of spreading around the garden.

I would like to add that in the matter of growing strawberries, mulching the soil with sawdust or pine needles also plays a significant role. It will save moisture in the ground, and will save you from slugs, and the berry will remain clean.

My friends grow strawberries by covering the ground with non-woven material specifically for the soil. Weeds do not grow, berries do not become infected with fungus and mold.

I used to mulch strawberries with sawdust or mowed grass, but all sorts of pests like to live in them. This year I tried AgroPrirostom: it mulches and fertilizes.
