- We offer some tips how to grow hyacinth at home without much difficulty.
Hyacinth is a bulbous plant; bulbs are planted in open ground mainly in the fall. The key to flowering hyacinths is proper storage of bulbs: initially (after digging) they need to be kept in a dry room at a temperature of about 25 - 30 degrees; before landing - at 17 degrees.
To prepare the soil for hyacinths, apply humus or bird droppings and mineral fertilizer. The plant prefers light, neutral or slightly alkaline soils.
During the period of active growth and flowering, hyacinth really needs to create increased humidity. Watering is carried out twice a week. They are stopped 10-15 days after flowering. It is also worth noting that hyacinth does not tolerate stagnation of water.
Hyacinth is responsive to fertilizing with mineral fertilizers according to the usual scheme (in spring, before and after flowering). After flowering, the inflorescences are cut off, the bulbs are dug out after the leaves turn yellow.
- How to grow hyacinth at home in pots
Bulbs are planted in pots at the beginning of winter. After planting, they are placed in a dark and cold place (temperature up to 10 degrees). The dormant period lasts up to 2.5 months, during which time the hyacinth should take root. After the sprouts appear, the pots with hyacinths are transferred to a bright room with a temperature of up to 18 degrees. Further care is no different from caring for open ground plants.
