Planting and caring for dahlias

dahlias

Planting and caring for dahlias do not require any incredible effort, but the subtleties in growing a particular flower are always their own, and dahlias are no exception.

For example, you need to start preparing the soil for dahlias in the fall. To do this, add 5-6 buckets of manure for every 10 square meters of planting area, then dig up the soil. In the spring, before planting, about 250 g of mineral fertilizers are added to the soil.

To plant dahlias, dig holes 30x30 cm and about 40 cm deep. It is recommended to immediately install a support for the garter nearby. It is good to pour 1-1.5 liters of soil rotted in the compost pit into the bottom of each hole.

Caring for dahlias includes regular watering, pinching, fertilizing and tying plants to supports. Dahlias are usually grown in 1 or 2 stems, the rest should be removed. Regular stepsoning is necessary. It is performed in such a way that, starting from the fourth pair of leaves, the shoots remain on the plant to form a bush. If you planted dahlias of a dwarf variety, then there is no need to do pinching.

Fertilizer fertilization is carried out after rain or main watering. The first feeding should be carried out 14 days after planting dahlias, the second and subsequent ones - after 10-15 days. Moreover, fertilizers should alternate: either mineral fertilizer or a solution of bird droppings or mullein. When the plants begin to set buds, make sure that the fertilizer does not contain nitrogen.

You will need to feed your dahlias again before frost, about 2-3 weeks.

As you noticed, planting and caring for dahlias is not particularly difficult. If you follow the above techniques, dahlias will delight you with lush flowering.
