About the benefits of the variety
Strawberry Elan F1 is a new product Dutch selection. Thanks to long-term research after working on the data obtained, this strawberry variety was developed, which is characterized by high resistance to diseases, improved taste, and increased yield.
Another undoubted advantage of this strawberry variety is that it can bear fruit from the beginning of June until the coldest autumn days. On one bush of such a strawberry there is a large number of tendrils and peduncles, dotted with large, sweet and aromatic berries, which can reach a weight of 30 grams to 60 grams.
The average yield is about 1.0-1.5 kg. And with proper care, up to 2.0 kg.
It is noteworthy that the Elan F1 strawberry bears fruit almost constantly and retains its wonderful taste both in summer and during autumn colds.
Care
Another distinctive property is the high frost resistance of such strawberries, and therefore they can be grown in a greenhouse and even in pots all year round. The best option for planting is about five to six bushes per square meter.
Elan F1 is completely unpretentious in care, and therefore it standardly includes weeding, loosening the soil and, of course, watering. Periodically, you can treat the plant with special compounds that will prevent plant diseaseand will also protect against pests. It will not be superfluous to fertilize the soil.
Gardening tricks: mulch and permanent beds
To avoid exhausting weeding and frequent watering, it is better to mulch the soil in the beds. When using roofing materialOf course, the heating of the surface will be strong.
Therefore, you can spray the roofing material with weak lime, or throw light sawdust or straw on it. Then for at least 4 years you will get rid of the invasion of weeds on the Elan F1 and save your back.
Direct the mustaches that will bear fruit this same year directly along the surface. You can safely leave two rosettes, they don’t have to be rooted, they will also give a good harvest.
But still, organic mulch is the best option. Before planting and mulching, prepare the bed itself. It is advisable that all your beds have a permanent location. It is not recommended to walk on stationary beds, then the soil on them will gradually become structured and provide all plantings with a supply of air and soil moisture.
To prevent the edges of the beds from “dancing” every year, they are fixed with the help of borders. For raised beds (which are simply necessary when groundwater is close), these can be bricks, natural stones, boards and young tree trunks.
In southern regions, where raised beds dry out too quickly, beds are used that are level with the ground, or slightly deepened in the form of a trench. In this case, plastic options are suitable for borders, which are usually dug in along with the soil. You can also dig in iron sheets and bricks - it all depends on the owner’s capabilities.
The width of stationary beds is 80-100 cm. Wider is done less often, since it will be difficult to reach with your hands for the harvest and for processing. The aisles should also be left wide so that you can carry boxes or push a cart. They can be planted with lawn grass, tiled, covered with cardboard, covered with gravel, and so on - in general, it is advisable to make them stationary too.
During the first two years, when applying a layer of organic mulch, weeds will still grow through it, but certainly not as en masse as without mulch. Then, with the annual addition of a mulch layer, you will be spared from weeding and accompanying radiculitis, and the berries will be clean and not splashed.
Garden Tricks: Mulch and Pyramid
Since the Elan F1 belongs to ampelous remontant varieties - it blooms and bears fruit on this year’s rosettes, then the most convenient way to grow strawberries will be to plant them on a pyramid. Children and grandchildren, surrounding the pyramid, will never trample down the plantings, and the hanging berries will be clean.
Containers, flowerpots and pots arranged in a tiered manner are, of course, also suitable for growing Elan F1, but children may accidentally pull the bushes by the whiskers, and your entire exhibited ensemble will fall with a crash. Therefore, for planting, it’s better to look at a pyramid or attach a tiered bed in the form of a ladder to the south side of the barn.
Mulching the soil in layered plantings is simply necessary, because with each layer the soil will become drier. And to make watering easier, you can apply drip irrigation to the bushes.
The price for such an excellent variety is very reasonable and is about 50-70 rubles per bush. Subsequently, such bushes will not only delight you with delicious berries, but will also adequately decorate your garden or balcony.
Comments
2 years ago we purchased seeds of this variety in the store. They rose well. I really like the fact that it bears fruit until the fall, in fact, until frost. Easy to pick because the berries are large and juicy.
