Potato varieties. Potato Adretta

Potatoes have long been considered the second bread. Each household plot has a plot of land on which this plant was grown. It must be taken into account that representative of the Solanaceae family is quite capricious, and simply sticking a tuber into the ground and waiting for autumn is hardly enough. Caring for potatoes includes fighting Colorado potato beetles, hilling, and weeding the plants. But modern selection does not stand still - it develops new varieties that meet all the requirements of both consumers and agricultural technology.

Yellow doesn't mean stern
Nowadays, gardeners are accustomed to seeing potatoes, in addition to the usual blue-eyed potato, also a vegetable of pink, purple and yellow color. But twenty years ago, the breeding of the Adretta potato became a sensation in world breeding. Such mid-early table variety German specialists brought it out, giving the world a delicious vegetable.
It turns out that previously varieties with light yellow or yellow flesh were used only for animal feed, since they did not have the necessary taste. Adretta was liked by sophisticated gourmets. This variety quickly spread. Now it finds its rightful place on the table in the form of mashed potatoes or just boiled potatoes.Subsequently, breeders developed similar varieties with the same yellow flesh, but so far the Adretta potato holds a confident lead among its fellows, surpassing them in various characteristics, properties, including taste.
Adretta is unpretentious to grow
It is impossible not to note how relieved gardeners felt when they tried this variety in their beds. It turns out that Adretta potatoes have excellent agrotechnical properties:
- unpretentious in care,
- has a fairly high resistance to adverse weather conditions,
- less affected by diseases and pests,
- has the highest yield.
Adretta is a mid-early potato variety, so it is planted in early spring, as soon as the snow melts and the ground warms up. This time is from late April to mid-May. At every stage of growing the beautifully named Adretta potato, it is treated like a child. In the spring, seed material is selected and planted, and in the summer, a representative of the Solanaceae family is protected from weeds and pests, and the main enemy of potatoes - the Colorado potato beetle.
The period of agrotechnical ripeness ranges from sixty to eighty days. Therefore, already at the end of June or beginning of July you can enjoy a tasty and healthy vegetable. However, it is recommended to completely harvest the crop at the end of August or beginning of September, when the tubers are fully formed and reach their maximum size. It’s not without reason that the popular proverb says: “Chickens are counted in the fall.” Likewise, for amateur gardeners, harvesting is a summing up of the work for the spring and summer. There is no point in harvesting Adretta potatoes later, since excessive exposure to the ground, especially in rainy autumn, can lead to rotting of the tubers and a deterioration in the taste of the crop. More than 10 tubers can be harvested from one potato bush. Productivity from 1 hectare is 40 tons.
Good storage qualities
Another undoubted advantage of the Adretta potato variety is its good keeping quality. The vegetable is amazingly stored, retaining its taste and nutrients. At the same time, there is a small percentage of tuber damage due to rot.
Another remarkable property of the representative of the Solanaceae family of this variety is low temperature resistance. Even if the teardrop tubers are touched by low temperatures and they become frozen, which often happens in severe frosts, then you should not worry about changing the taste of the potatoes. Unlike their counterparts in the potato industry, frozen Adretta tubers rarely acquire an unpleasant sweetish taste.
Potatoes are king in Russian cuisine
The advantage of the Adretta variety is its high taste. It is good both as a side dish and as a main dish, for example, potatoes with mushrooms. It is tasty and looks great in the first dish: soup, rassolnik, borscht. And what an amazing taste this potato casserole has.
It should be noted that the breeders tried and preserved its main qualities in potatoes - useful substances and vitamins. This vegetable is a storehouse, which also contains vitamin B6, which activates the glycogen contained in the body and stimulates muscle function. Potatoes contain carbohydrates, which allow you to train without getting tired for a long time. It is very useful to eat unpeeled potatoes boiled in their skins - their peel contains substances that have a beneficial effect on the activity of the cardiovascular system.

Interesting information, thanks. The only remark is that according to German sources, Adretta was bred in 1975, that is, already about four decades ago.
My mother-in-law told me about the address. She praised me greatly. But for me, all yellow potatoes are adretta)) I think that these are truly the most delicious potatoes. Pink potatoes are not as crumbly.
For many years, this variety has been a favorite in our family! Of course, we tried to grow other varieties, some from seeds, some from neighbors, and even on the recommendations of our Kuzbass governor, but still we returned to adretta :) the dacha is located on a mountain, the soils are very poor, how does it even grow here.. .and these potatoes are very unpretentious to soil and care!
Oooh, this is our very first and “ancient” variety. We tried so many varieties, some were rejected immediately. And this variety is beyond competition for our family. It was and will remain our favorite, despite the fact that it is not new.
Why "20 years ago"? Much earlier. This variety was bred in the GDR, but this country has been gone for a quarter of a century. At that time, the variety was truly “advanced”. Very tasty potatoes. But keeping quality is unsatisfactory. It should be eaten immediately, in the fall. Actually, that’s why our family abandoned it.
