Sedum or hare cabbage - belongs to the perennial evergreen plants of the family Crassulaceae. Brought to us from the northern part of Iran. It is especially popular in Turkey. Among experienced gardeners it is known as sedum or false crimson sedum.

Types of sedum
Height of false crimson sedum reaches 25 cm. The foliage, unlike other species, is flatter. Flowering can only be observed when the plant reaches one year of age. Each blooming flower can reach 7 cm in diameter.
Purple sedum, or common sedum, is most often used in medicine. It can grow up to 30 cm. It has fairly fleshy foliage with a bluish bloom. Flowering occurs in the last ten days of August and can last throughout September. The flowers are arranged in inflorescences and are bright pink.
Hybrid groundcover sedum is characterized by high frost resistance and dark green color with relatively thin leaves.
Sedum bent, also called rocky, refers to creeping plants. With enough moisture and free space around, it can form a fairly dense plant cushion. Foliage color can range from light green to deep green or purple-green. Often used when creating garden compositions from stone, rock gardens and rockeries.
Flowering occurs in July-August. The inflorescences have an umbrella shape. The flowers are yellow in color. This type of plant has one peculiarity: they love light very much. Therefore, before planting them, you need to choose the right place.

Landing
It is better to plant indoor sedum plants in a flat and wide pot. Such recommendations from experienced specialists are due to the fact that the plant’s root system does not go deep into the ground, but does not spread horizontally deep from the soil surface.
The planting itself consists of carefully placing a pre-prepared cutting without lower leaves into the ground. Rooting of sedum at any time of the year almost always happens well. But, just like with most other plants, the best time for landings sedum is spring. It is during this period that the plant’s inflorescences and flowers develop most intensively.
Since the flower is a native of warm regions (this applies to almost all varieties), it needs a sufficient amount of sunny color. Window sills facing south, east or west are suitable for placing a flower pot. Placing it on the north side, firstly, can lead to a lack of flowering, and secondly, to too rapid and intense stretching of the stem.
In cases where, for some reason, it is not possible to install the plant on the indicated sides, and there is only the option of the north side, the owners will have to consider arranging additional lighting for the flower.
Soil for planting
Almost any composition is suitable for good growth. But, in order to create the most ideal conditions for planting, you will need to add soil a certain amount of lime and sand.
Recommended temperature
In addition, it is worth taking care of maintaining a certain temperature regime. For example, during the growing season of a flower, the optimal temperature for it will be 25 degrees, and during the dormant period 15 degrees will be enough.
Watering

This procedure is especially significant in the spring, after the winter quiet period.
Watering A flower of this variety needs it in moderation and no more than twice a week, and then only as the soil in the pot dries out. In winter, watering can be reduced to once every few weeks, but only if the room temperature is maintained at the above temperature. If the temperature regime is not observed, then it is better not to reduce watering.
Feeding
Fertilizing sedum can be done using both organic and mineral fertilizers. Mullein and nitrogen added in small quantities will also be useful. But, as in everything, there must be a measure here: sedum can react quite badly to an excess of fertilizers.

In winter, it urgently needs coolness, that is, conditions as close as possible to natural ones. Only under such conditions and precisely during this period does the flower begin to lay buds for the next year. A sharp change in temperature during the growing season leads to its flowering.

Sedum or hare cabbage grows in our dacha and since our soil is more likely to be sandy than not, it has taken root well. And it requires virtually no maintenance, except maybe watering if the summer is dry and once a year in the spring - fertilizing.
