Useful properties of lovage

lovage

Lovage is a perennial herbaceous plant from the Apiaceae family. Externally, lovage is similar to celery, it has dark green leaves and small pale yellow flowers, collected in inflorescences. The healing and beneficial properties of lovage are difficult to overestimate.

Both the leaves and roots of the plant have a healing effect. In particular, fresh lovage leaves relieve headaches; they should be applied to the sore spot. But still, the most common are decoctions and infusions from lovage roots.

The beneficial properties of lovage help get rid of many ailments:

  • cough
  • poor appetite
  • increased nervousness
  • hair loss
  • gout and rheumatism
  • kidney and bladder diseases
  • intestinal colic and flatulence
  • pustular skin diseases
  • worms.

The beneficial properties of lovage are not limited to pharmacology. Lovage seeds have been known for centuries as an intense spice. All parts of the plant contain essential oils. In our country, lovage is not a means of official medicine, but in many countries of the world it is included in pharmacopoeias (state codes of medicinal raw materials). Pregnant women are prohibited from taking lovage; it causes blood flow to the pelvic organs.
