The use of meadow clover in folk medicine

Perennial plant clover has highly branched, ascending stems covered with small oval-shaped leaves. Its flowers are colored with a whitish-violet or reddish tint and are collected in spherical inflorescence heads. Clover blossom starts at the end of spring, and in September, in place of the inflorescences, fruits are formed, having an ovoid shape and one seed.
The healing properties of this fragrant field and meadow plant were known in ancient times, and in folk medicine to this day. All kinds of decoctions, teas and infusions of clover are widely used. The use of red clover is advisable, first of all, for bleeding, as well as to reduce excessively heavy menstruation. Decoctions prepared from the flowers and leaves of the plant are recommended to eliminate severe headaches and shortness of breath, infusions from clover roots are used for hernia and inflammation of the appendages, in case of anemia and physical exhaustion of the body. Young mothers who have problems with lactation are recommended to drink a special medicinal tea, consisting of clover heads and the same amount of dry St. John's wort herb.
However, we should not forget that clover, like any other medicinal plant, is only a means of traditional medicine, the effectiveness of which has not been scientifically proven. Application of red clover should not be considered a kind of panacea, and if any disease occurs, it is necessary first of all consult a specialist, and not give in to the temptation to try traditional medicines on yourself.
