The inflorescences are also medium in size, often red-violet or light lilac in color. Since the potatoes are early, the tops develop very quickly. It grows very dense and dense.

Potato tubers
The average tuber size reaches 80-150 grams. It is formed immediately in large quantities. The shape of the tubers is quite long, oval in shape. The peel is very thin, red and the eyes on the potatoes themselves are very small. The starch content of potatoes is about 15 percent, and the dry matter content is about twenty percent. This type of potato does not boil well.
This potato variety is now very often used for making chips, French fries and other dishes.
Main features of potatoes
The tubers ripen very quickly and the bush produces a lot of harvest, unlike other varieties. Tubers may not darken if damaged in any way. Variety "Scarlett" is resistant to:
- Raku
- Various viruses
- Tuber blight is a potato disease that affects the bush part and also the tubers. Basically, it begins to appear when the daily temperature fluctuates and cold dew falls. Phytophthora is a genus of fungus; spores begin to appear in the conidial stage (in the form of a white coating). It is much easier to prevent late blight than to fight it later in its midst.
- The golden potato nematode is a worm that attacks roots. It is very small and can only be seen with a microscope. Because of this nematode, thirty or even eighty percent of the entire crop can die. If potatoes grow in the fields and are overcome by nematodes, then it may even end up with the fact that it will simply be impossible to export the potatoes. You will also have to introduce quarantine.
There are also advantages: the Scarlett variety is weakly resistant to:
- Late blight of tops
- Common scab is a fungal disease of potatoes that affects tubers, and also reduces yield and reduces the quality of tubers. And, therefore, it will be useless to plant affected tubers.
- Alternaria - also caused by a fungus. According to statistics, five percent of the reduction in yield is due to Alternaria blight. Spots appear on the potatoes. In addition to potatoes, other vegetables may be affected, such as tomatoes and other nightshades. To avoid damage, you need to carry out prevention before flowering.
If you plant in conditions of high temperatures, then you should feed the potato bushes with manganese or magnesium.
Features of growing the Scarlett variety
Many varieties of Dutch potatoes have gone out of circulation, so the same thing can happen to this type very quickly. All this happens due to rapid infection by viruses, and therefore growing some varieties is not profitable at all. In the Dutch method of growing potatoes, there are three fundamental fundamental observations, the so-called “three pillars”:
- Well-loose soil saturated with oxygen
- Free access to moisture
- And also free access of air
These are the conditions that are most suitable for growing Dutch varieties. potatoes and including "Scarlett". During planting, you should maintain a certain width between the bushes - this is 60 - 70 centimeters, but for earlier ones you need to maintain a distance of 75 - 80 centimeters. If you increase the planting area, you may lose some amount of harvest. The planting depth should be no more than four centimeters. Usually, immediately after the formation of the bushes, ridges should be made 20 - 25 centimeters high and 75 centimeters wide. It is advisable to control weeds with herbicides. If these rules are not followed, the potatoes may become crushed and become completely unusable.
Cleaning harvest Potatoes are produced in late August or early September. Tops are removed from the fields ten days before harvest. Harvesting the tops early will allow the tubers to grow faster. As you know, in the presence of greenery, all the power goes into the growth of the tops.
It should also be noted that planting potatoes should be alternated with planting legumes; they will prepare the soil well for potatoes.

Thus, if you decide to plant potatoes on your plot, then try the Red Scarlett variety. It is very suitable for the Russian climate and tolerates climate changes well. Also very good if you want to harvest earlier than with conventional varieties.
