Reproduction
Reproduction can occur in several ways, such as planting, seeds, or dividing the Cornedonian. To propagate Eremurus by seeds, 4 to 7 years must pass after planting the main plant. Because blossom he starts only after a long wait. Seeds should be planted in early spring, in the ground. After the seedlings have sprouted, they should be planted in the garden at a distance of 30 - 60 cm from each other, since the roots are very large, resembling a starfish.
If you still want to propagate Eremurus by dividing the rhizomes, then it is advisable to divide from mid-August to mid-September.
You need to choose a sunny place, where it is almost always dry, as the plant can die from dampness. You need to dig a hole 50 cm deep and fill it with about 20 cm of gravel, pour sand closer to the surface (5-7 cm).
Care
The plant is considered unpretentious, but in central Russia, eremurus need to be protected from the abundance of precipitation and cold nights. It is necessary to loosen the soil around as often as possible plants, the top layer, so that there is no accumulation of water. With prolonged humidity, the roots of the plant begin to rot and it dies.
Fertilizing with mineral fertilizers at least 2-3 times a season has a very good effect.
For the winter, the plant should be covered with film or polyethylene. But this way it can withstand temperatures down to -20. The flower should not be allowed to dry out. In spring it should be protected from frost.
Pests
Since the trunk of the plant is very succulent, slugs love to appear on it. If you notice them, take them off immediately, they will eat leaves and the plant will lose its beauty. They will only drink the juices and, therefore, the plant will soon die. The most dangerous thing for Eremurus is bacterial and fungal diseases.
Application
Ornamental and honey plant.Glue can be obtained from its root, since it contains the polysaccharide emuran, which is considered a valuable substitute for gum arabic. Young leaves are edible.
Thus, try growing such a plant in your garden. In my opinion, it will decorate any place and will look very unusual, which will attract the attention of others!
