Lobelia climbing - propagation, cultivation, care

Lobelia

Lobelia is part of a group of plants that can decorate any garden plot. Hybrid forms are mainly used. In addition to beautiful flowers, it has leaves, which are often used as landscaping in borders and in compositions. Can be grown both on balconies and in garden vases. Abundant and long-lasting flowering makes lobelia popular among gardeners. If you trim growing bushes in a timely manner, they can retain their beauty until late autumn.

Lobelia climbing begins to produce blue-violet flowers in mid-summer. The most suitable soils are sandy loam and loamy soils. If the soil is too rich in organic matter, leaf cover will predominate. Ample regular watering is also important.

The plant is propagated by seeds sown in boxes starting in February. Peat and sand are added to the ground. If the seeds are very small, then you don’t need to cover them with soil. After planting, the soil surface is sprayed with a spray bottle; the boxes should be covered with glass or greenhouse film. The air temperature should be above 20 degrees. Transplanting into flower beds is optimal in May.

The seedlings are picked twice. The distance between them remains about 2 centimeters the first time and 6 cm the second time. Planted in the ground every 15 centimeters. Long shoots must be pinched.

Lobelia is a climbing plant and looks great on its own, especially up close.Finding her “neighbors” for a harmoniously composed composition is quite a difficult task. Verbena, balsam, rudbeckia, and pelargonium are suitable.

Beautiful plant! I once saw seeds on sale, but the picture on the bag didn’t impress me. And here, it turns out, there is a real abundance of beauty! But I don’t understand - is it an annual or perennial plant?
