Freesia at home

Freesia at home

Freesia African by origin. This herbaceous perennial plant belongs to the corm crops. The most widespread is hybrid freesia, which is valued by gardeners for its strong aroma reminiscent of lily of the valley.

Freesia successfully grown in open ground, as well as in greenhouse conditions. It is recommended to use soil that is moisture-absorbing, nutritious and loose. You can start planting bulbs from April to May. The soil and corms are first treated with a solution of manganese or fungicide. Such simple procedures will protect freesia from putrefactive diseases.

Freesia at home good because it pleases with its unusual colors at the end of winter, when everything around is so dull and gray.

Freesia pots should be filled withrenage and loose and nutritious soil. Bulbs can be planted in pots in October; they germinate very quickly - within two weeks timid sprouts will appear from the ground. The difficulty in growing this way is that it is not always possible to provide the plant with the necessary illumination, and freesia loves sunlight very much (it’s not for nothing that it comes from hot Africa).

Freesia at home requires careful care of the bulbs, because after flowering the freesia's above-ground part dries out. It needs to be removed, and the bulbs dug up and dried well. Important correctly organize the process of storing freesia corms – place them in a plastic bag and keep them at room temperature.

And in the fall you can start planting this cute plant again.
