Garden bean and its types

garden bean

Bobovnik - Southern European garden tree. It looks very impressive during flowering. Its lush inflorescences are collected in long drooping clusters of golden color. They bloom simultaneously with the appearance of leaves at the end of May. Flowering lasts for about a month, and then fruits appear in the form of pubescent beans, which under no circumstances should even be tasted. All parts of this plant contain the poisonous alkaloid cytisine. The most popular is anagyrofolia garden bean, popularly nicknamed “golden rain”, having a straight trunk, smooth bark, branches turned upward.

Very similar to "golden shower" alpine bean. It has smaller branches and leaves, smooth fruits. Its crown is dome-shaped, the shoots droop. It blooms later and is more frost-resistant than anagyrofolia. However, it is still difficult to grow it in the middle zone. Even if the plant survives Russian winters without freezing, it may simply not bloom or bloom very sparingly. Bobovnik Waterera is a hybrid of the previous two species and has longer flowering and more spectacular clusters of inflorescences.

Garden bean feels great and in the sun and in partial shade. Prefers calcareous, loose, moist soils. It should be planted in late autumn or early spring. For young plants, until the root system has developed properly, support is required. Sometimes these plants are used to create canopies, in which case formative pruning is required at an early stage.Legumes reproduce by seeds, which are first sown in boxes in October in an unheated room. After germination, the seedlings are planted in pots, and in the spring - in a permanent place.
