Reproduction occurs by self-sowing with the help of a fruit in the form of a pod, which throws out black seeds after ripening. Aquilegia seeds remain viable for up to 2 or even 5 years (if they are properly stored in a dry place). Sown seeds at the end of April in soil heated to a temperature of 16 degrees. Shoots appear in a month. It begins to bloom in May-June, and some species only at the end of summer, but flowering lasts for a whole month. One flower retains its decorative appearance for almost a week. Some species sometimes rebloom in early autumn.
If it is necessary to maintain the purity of the variety, aquilegia is propagated by cuttings or by dividing the bush.Optimal conditions for planting are well-draining soil and slight shade at midday during high sun. But in general it is a light-loving plant. Watering requires abundant regular watering.
