How to save cut tulips

how to save cut tulips

Surely you have encountered such a problem as the rapid withering of cut flowers in bouquets. Even tulips purchased with still unopened buds, when placed in a vase with water, very quickly open their petals, droop and lose all freshness very quickly.

And I really want to admire the beautiful flowers longer! Therefore, many people are interested in the question: how to save cut tulips?

It is known that a decrease in ambient temperature can slow down the vital activity of a plant. But tulips can be stored in two ways: indoors and in water. Therefore, the storage temperature will be different.

To keep tulips fresh for a week, the water temperature should not be higher than 4 degrees Celsius. In order for tulips indoors to retain their pristine freshness, the temperature decrease should be more severe - up to 0-1 degrees. Skilled gardeners prefer the second method of storage before transportation, but this storage method will require a spacious refrigerator.

For a longer life of tulips in a vase, you can add a specially produced 3% sugar solution to the water. Change the water in the vase with tulips at least once a day, and before putting the tulips in the water, make oblique cuts on the stems with a sharp knife. To prevent the stems from rotting, add a piece of charcoal, a few crystals of potassium permanganate or one aspirin tablet to the vase.

If you don’t have enough time for such manipulations, but you are still concerned about the question of how to preserve cut tulips, you can use special preparations, for example, “Flora”, “Bud”.
