How to plant raspberries?

Raspberries - a wonderful berry and an almost unpretentious shrub. Rarely does anyone have questions about how to plant raspberries; they can be planted at any time of the year, except winter.

Before planting raspberries, you need to choose a planting method. Many people recommend trench planting; if there are a lot of raspberry bushes, one bush can be planted in a well-organized hole.

The trenches need to be prepared in advance, about twenty days in advance, the process is labor-intensive, but in the future this will make maintenance easier and will greatly increase the yield of planted raspberries.

The soil should be cleared of any weeds, furrows should be made, and it is better to cover the row spacing with something so that there are fewer weeds and therefore less work; there should be a distance of about a meter between the trenches (rows), the distance between the bushes should be at least 30 cm.

In order for the trenches to be even, you can use pegs and a cord; the trenches should be about 60 cm wide and about 45 cm deep. The length of the trenches should correspond to the length of the planned raspberry tree, and the number of trenches themselves will correspond to the number of planned rows of the raspberry tree. It is better to make trenches in the following directions: from north-east to south-west or from south to north, this way the best illumination of each bush is achieved.

The trenches are filled with a nutrient mixture, which is made directly in the trench:

  • Either ready-made compost or rotted manure is added to the bottom of the trenches in a layer of no more than 10 cm.
  • Sprinkle double superphosphate onto the manure.
  • Next, add vermicompost and fertile soil.
  • Immediately before planting the bushes, you can also add ash.
  • When planting raspberries, you should not apply nitrogen fertilizers; they will interfere with normal rooting.
  • At the ends of the trenches, you should stop the pillars, between which the wire will be stretched, this is how trellises are created, to which you will then need to tie the raspberry vines.

Raspberries can grow well and thrive in partial shade, but their fruiting will be low and the shoots will stretch too much, so it is still better to plant raspberries in a bright place where there is no strong wind.

Raspberry shoots, which have a small root system and will be planted, need to be well soaked and shortened so that their height does not exceed 30 cm and planted in well-soaked holes in the trench.

How to deal with the fact that raspberries will grow terribly quickly and literally in a couple of years will “crawl out” of the trench allotted to them in all directions?

tashah, oh, this question worries me too! But so far I haven’t found a solution to this situation... I have to work!

They say to plant 3-4 rows of garlic along the row of raspberries. or 0.5 m deep like andulin or sold in rolls of different widths specifically for this purpose.
