Planting Chinese cabbage in open ground

Cabbage

Chinese cabbage, being one of the vegetables richest in vitamin C, is a fairly cold-resistant crop. The plant tolerates temperatures down to -4 degrees without much damage, and its seeds germinate as soon as the thermometer reaches 3-4 degrees. At the same time, the optimal temperature indicators for growing this vegetable are 15-22 degrees, so planting Chinese cabbage (or rather, its 27-30 day old seedlings) in open ground is usually carried out in early June. That is, seeds for seedlings must be sown at the end of April. Seedlings should not be placed too densely: you should not plant more than 12-15 plants on one square meter of land.

Planting Chinese cabbage using the seedless method is carried out slightly differently: the seeds are sown in open soil in three stages - at the end of April - beginning of May, two weeks after the first planting and at the beginning of August. Accordingly, the time of harvest ripening will depend on the selected period. It is worth considering that this crop is early ripening, the cabbage rosette is formed within 40-50, and heads of cabbage - 60-80 days after planting.

Further care for Chinese cabbage is quite simple and consists of regular watering and removing all kinds of weeds from the garden bed. But it’s better to completely abandon fertilizers and fertilizing. The fact is that this crop is prone to extremely rapid accumulation (especially in leaf petioles and stems) of nitrates, and consuming such an overly “fed” vegetable can have a negative effect on the human body.

Last year I sowed seeds in open ground, but there was no result. Now I know why, thanks to this article. I did the sowing in the ground at the beginning of May, but it should have been in June. But a negative result is also a result. Now I will know how to do everything right.
