Tips for preparing potatoes for planting

Sprouted potatoes

Starting in the fall, when the harvest is harvested, you should think about how to prepare potatoes for planting. For this purpose, tubers of correct shape and uniform color, weighing up to 90 grams, are selected. Small fruits will give the same small harvest next year, and too large ones will go to the tops. It’s even better if the potatoes for these purposes are purchased at a specialized store.

Preparing potatoes for planting

  1. Before planting, 40-50 days before planting, potatoes are removed from storage and diseased tubers are discarded.
  2. The potatoes are poured onto the floor (in one layer), always in a bright room, the temperature of which is not higher than 20-22 degrees. If the room is dark, the sprouts will be thin and fragile.
  3. The tubers should be moistened with a spray bottle as they dry out.
  4. The sprouts should be strong, have a dark green color, and their length should be up to one and a half centimeters. Sprouts that are too long may break off during planting.

The yield will depend on how you prepare the potatoes for planting. Since unsprouted tubers can germinate poorly and for a long time in still cold soil.

Another important point: when planting potatoes, you should not throw them into the hole, but carefully place them with the sprouts facing up.
